Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Takes Over as Minister of State for Railways
Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has taken over as Minister of State for Railways here today i.e. 29th October 2012. Shri Chowdhury is Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from Berhampur (West Bengal) constituency.
Born on April 02, 1956 in Berhampur, Distt. Murshidabad (West Bengal), Shri Chowdhury was Member, West Bengal Legislative Assembly from 1996-1999. In the year 1999, Shri Chowdhury was elected to 13th Lok Sabha. In the year 2004 he was re-elected to 14th Lok Sabha (second term) and in 2009 he was re-elected to 15th Lok Sabha (third term).
In addition, Shri Chowdhury has been member of various committees of the Parliament which included, Committee on Information Technology, Railway Convention Committee, Committee to review the Rate of Dividend Payable by the Railway Undertaking to the General Revenues, Committee on Estimates, Committee on Transport, Tourism & Culture. He was Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Food Processing.
He takes part in social and cultural activities like rendering service to the poor in the form of blood donation, flood relief and drought relief by setting up a club for the purpose, runs a public library. He also takes active participation in sports like Cricket and Football.
