Find jobs with Jaipur metro by October

Jaipur: Clouds of uncertainty may be looming over completion of the metro project in its set deadline due to land-acquisition hurdles and slow progress in civil works. However, Jaipur metro rail corporation (JMRC) is all set to recruit the team which will operate trains when the project finally takes off.

The corporation has given nod for the recruitment of 400 staffers to operate and maintain the metro trains scheduled to run from Mansarovar to Chandpole, which is the first phase of the project. The recruitment process will start in one month’s time. An advertisement will be issued for this too. The process is expected to be finished by December, just six months before the deadline when trains should actually start to ply.

The decision of recruitment was taken in a meeting of corporation’s board of the directors chaired by CMD NC Goyal on Wednesday. The board meeting approved the drafted rules for the recruitment. According to sources, 472 staffers will be recruited for Jaipur Metro.

“400 staffers will be recruited directly by December. Corporation will decide over the recruitment of other staffers later,” said a source with JMRC.

The manpower to be recruited primary includes technical staff, drivers, station masters and engineers who will be deployed to maintain and operate trains plying on Mansarovar to Chandpole route by June, 2013.

The source added that recruitment process should have been started a couple of months back. But drafting of the rules and its approval from the finance department consumed a lot of time.

First set of Rapid Metro coaches arrive

The first set of three coaches of India’s privately-funded Rapid Metro Rail reached Gurgaon on Wednesday morning from Shanghai. With the trial run of the service scheduled for October 2, the train is likely to be put on the track on Thursday. The train landed at the Mumbai airport on August 20 and was en route to Gurgaon by road.

The coaches have been kept at the U block Metro station in DLF City Phase-3. After the process of system integration, these will be unveiled.

The train started its journey from its manufacturing unit in China at the CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co. Ltd (CSR ZELC) – the biggest train manufacturing unit in China – to the Shanghai port via road on July 22.

The coaches reached the Shanghai port after three days where the unloading was carried out on July 25. The rapid coaches were then shipped from the port after four days on July 29.

After travelling through the sea route for a fortnight, the train arrived at the Mumbai port on August 14. The unloading of all three coaches was done within a day and these were shifted to the trailer on August 15.

Officials said the consignment departed from Mumbai on August 28. Though the train was supposed to reach Gurgaon by August 15, the consignment was delayed as the shipment from the Shanghai port started late, said an official of the Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited.

The RMG trains are scheduled to start operation from March or April next year.

Stone laying for Kochi Metro today

The network will provide a system of mass rapid transport for Kochi by 2016

A new era is set to dawn in the Greater Kochi area on Thursday when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh lays the foundation stone for the Kochi Metro Rail project.

Apart from providing a system of mass rapid transport in the city by 2016, the 25-km-long Aluva-MG Road-Pettah metro corridor will result in the city expanding towards the suburbs. The Kochi Metro Rail Limited’s (KMRL) director board has already cited the need to extend the metro towards the international airport, Kakkanad and Tripunithura. Thus, commuters from these places and beyond will be able to travel to the city and back, without being caught in traffic snarls.

The State government has promised that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which prepared the detailed project report and is the project consultant, will implement the project.

The DMRC’s principal advisor E. Sreedharan said here a few days ago that metro commuters will be able to cover the Aluva-MG Road stretch in 28 to 30 minutes. “They will be able to reach Pettah (near Tripunithura) from the Ernakulam Junction railway station in 10 minutes. The services in Delhi have a punctuality rate of 99.70 per cent.”

He told The Hindu that apart from initiating the widening of key roads in the city, the metro will also improve the city’s aesthetics. “The space between the metro pillars will be landscaped, so that vendors and others do not encroach into the space. The expenses have been included in the total project cost (Rs 5,181 crore). The pillars will be 1.20 metres wide and they will have crash guards on the side.”

A foot-by-foot survey will be done and footpaths will be widened wherever necessary. Street lights that hamper traffic movement will be relocated. The DMRC will also relocate lamp posts (from the medians), pipelines and cables, since leaving it to the departments concerned might cause delays.

Aimed at completing the project a year ahead of schedule (three years, instead of the four years planned), tenders will be awarded within a week of signing an MoU with KMRL.

This way, public money worth at least Rs 150 crore can be saved, Mr Sreedharan said. (The DMRC has already finalised the tenders to widen the Town Hall-Madhava Pharmacy Junction stretch and the Jos Junction-South Railway station road, apart from the tender to build a coach-maintenance yard at Muttom near Aluva. It is awaiting handing over of the land.)
