NEW DELHI: The hassle of re-charging smart cards within a year's time is finally a thing of the past. The Delhi Metro is planning to increase the duration of the smart card from the present one year to 10 years. Over one crore smart cards are in circulation.
The smart cards have been in use for several years now. However, since the duration of the smart card is for one year, to continue to use it, you have to recharge the card once during the one year period after purchase to extend the validity of the smart card, said a DMRC official.
"The minimum recharge value of a travel card is Rs 100, while the maximum is Rs 1,000. Subsequent recharge will be in multiple of Rs 50," added the official.
