Expectations for rise in Dearness Allowance to 10 % for Central Government Employees from July 2013.

Calculation based on All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001=100

For all the Central Government Employees there would be a rise in DA to 10 %, which would result in the overall rise to 90 % from 01.07.2013.

Central Railway registers 116 per cent growth in earnings from fines

MUMBAI: Central Railway has managed to earn an increase of 116 per cent from unauthorised and ticketless travels across all its divisions in the May 2013.

CR said that it managed to earn a record amount of Rs13.75 crore in May 2013 as against Rs 6.36 crore in the same month last year. CR has attributed this performance to efficient planning, better coordination and improved team work among its staff members across all its divisions.

A CR spokesperson said, "Our zone has always been persistent in curbing ticketless / unauthorised travel through its massive checking drives."

During the month of May 2013 a total of 2.57 lakh cases of ticketless / irregular travel including unbooked luggage have been detected in these drives. Comparatively, in the same period last year, CR staff was able to detect only 1.40 lakh cases

CR official further said,"A total of 4.24 lakh cases were detected in the financial year in April and May 2013 as against 3.30 lakh cases detected in the corresponding period of previous financial year."

The amount realised from these cases during the first two months of this financial year in April and May 2013 is Rs. 22.15 crore as against Rs. 15.41 crore during same period in last financial year, thus showing an increase of 43.74 %.

In addition to above, 186 cases of transfer of reserved tickets were also detected in the month of May 2013 and an amount of Rs 1.04 lakh realised besides confiscation of tickets worth Rs. 0.51 lakh.

South Central Railway announces 12 new trains

HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway (SCR) announced the introduction of 12 new trains on Saturday during the release of the revised southern zone time-table that would come into effect from July 1. Fourteen trains were announced in the rail budget 2013-14, of which two have already been introduced. The remaining will be introduced later in the year but timings for these trains were mentioned in the revised time-table.

The bi-weekly trains to be introduced later include Kacheguda-Mangalore, Kakinada-Mumbai, Guntur-Shirdi and Guntur-Mumbai trains. Weekly trains to Puducherry and between Nizamabad-Mumbai, Nanded-Nangaldam and Gandhidham-Visakhapatnam are also set to start soon.

The new time-table also marked changes in the frequency of eight trains, details of running time of 11 trains originating in other divisions but passing through SCR, speeding up of 10 trains, extension of services of 10 trains and provision of additional stoppages for 11 trains. It was also announced that the terminals of Hyderabad-Bidar Express and Belampalli-Hyderabad Express have been changed from Hyderabad to Secunderabad.

A pocket-size time-table for MMTS and local train services was also released. The booklet, which would be available for Rs 5 at railway stations, contains system maps, fare tables and list of colonies close to MMTS stations.

Highlighting the achievements of SCR on the occasion, general manager, D P Pande said, "SCR loaded more than 110 million tonnes of freight and carried around 387 million passengers, with earnings of more than Rs 10,000 crore last year." When asked about the status of MMTS phase II, Pande said, "Three parcels of the project have been handed out. On the airport connectivity, which will also be taken up later, GMR has to take a call on how it would accommodate MMTS, metro and road connectivity to the airport. People want all three modes of transport."

On the issue of passenger security, officials informed that cameras are being installed on trains to keep an eye on both passenger movement and railway staff.

Central Railway to introduce 12 new long distance services from July 1 onwards

MUMBAI: Central Railway will introduce 12 new long distance train services, including 8 linking Mumbai from July 1 onwards. The railways have also decided extend the destinations of some mail/express trains due to popular demand.

Of eight services from Mumbai, 7 are from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT). It also includes a the much awaited LTT-Hazrat Nizamuddin Air Conditioned Weekly special service. This train with 16-coach will depart from LTT and Hazrat Nizamuddin on every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Among the new services from Mumbai are LTT- Karaikal Weekly Express via Wadi-Chennai Egmore-Nagapattinam-Nagore, LTT -Ajni(Nagpur) Weekly Express via Akola-Hingoli Aurangabad-Manmad, LTT- Nizamabad Weekly Express via Mudkhed-Nanded-Purna-Aurangabad-Manmad, CST-Solapur Daily Express via Thane-Panvel-Karjat-Pune, LTT-Kochuveli Bi-weekly Weekly via Madgaon-Mangalore Jn - Kottayam, LTT-Kakinada Bi- Weekly Express via Guntur-Nadikude-Nalgunda-Secunderabad-Wadi.

The pilgrimage town of Shirdi has also become a popular destination and railways have to cash in on this trend by introducing a few more services to cater to Sai Baba devotees.

CR official said, "We have decided to run Sainagar Shirdi - Kalka Bi-Weekly Express via Hazrat Nizamuddin-Bhopal-Itarsi-Khandwa. Another services linking Sainagar Shirdi to Puri via Sambalpur-Titlagarh-Raipur-Nagpur-Bhusawal has also been scheduled on weekly basis."

Railways have also decided to extend Mumbai-Latur Express to Hazur Sahib Nanded. Morever, LTT-Bhubaneswar Express (Weekly) will now run upto Puri and LTT-Darbhanga Karma Bhoomi Express has been extended utp Raxaul.

Railway's women' welfare oganisation donates Rs 10 lakh to Uttarakhan flood victims

MUMBAI: In a special humanitarian gesture, Railway Women's Welfare Central Organization (RWWCO), a noted voluntary organization of the wives of Indian Railway officers, has come forward to make a donation to Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for extending help in the rehabilitation of the flood victims of Uttarakhand.

The Minister of Railways, Mallikarjun Kharge received a cheque of Rs.10 lakh for this noble cause from Poonam Mittal, President, RWWCO, here today. RWWCO's General Secretary, Samidha Gupta and Treasurer Amita Chauhan were also present on the occasion.

While the primary concern of the RWWCO is the welfare of Railway employees and their families, it has also risen to the call of the society and the nation - be it environmental awareness, family welfare drives, disturbances on the borders or the natural calamities. With a very modest start about 48 years ago, RWWCO today has gained importance as one of the foremost voluntary organisations functioning in the country.

A PIB release stated, 'Broad activities of RWWCO are to run nursery schools, vocational training centres to contribute to national cause of education and literacy amongst women and children, to encourage children through competitions in sports, essay writing, drawing and painting etc. on All India Railway leve."

The organization also provides financial assistance to children of low-paid railway employees for studies in engineering, medical and other academic courses by way of giving scholarships and educational assistance. The organization also runs craft centre for imparting training in tailoring and crafts to wives/daughters of railway staff and masala/craft centres to provide gainful employment to women. Besides RWWCO also organizes awareness drives about environmental pollution, family welfare, AIDS etc. as well as also provides financial assistance to railway employees and their families in sickness and distress cases.
