Bhubaneswar (BBS): Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Union Minister of State for Railways, assured a delegation of East Coast Railway Engineers Association (ECoREA) that career growth of railway engineers would be examined seriously.
A four-member ECoREA delegation on behalf of All India Railway Engineers Federation (AIREF) submitted a memorandum highlighting anomalies existing in engineering service in Indian Railways.
The delegation was accompanied by Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha member Bibhu Prasad Tarai.
According to ECoREA, Mr. Tarai informed the Minister that graduate engineers in Indian Railways were looking at a bleak future in the absence of attractive promotional prospects.
It was humiliating that graduate engineers were equated with nurses, he told.
Railway engineers should be given Group-B status as per India Gazette Notification and similar to their counterparts of other Central government departments, the MP said, adding that these engineers were working round the clock for the safety of crores passengers daily but their genuine demands had been overlooked by the Railway Ministry.
