Railways to Operate Special Trains

The Railways will operate special trains during the summer vacation, informed the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC).

The IRCTC said that the Bharat Darshan train will conduct service from Madurai to destinations in north India, via Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Shoranur, Palakkad, Podanur, Erode, Salem and Vijayawada.

The trip covers tourist places such as Haridwar, Varanasi, Gaya, Puri, Konark and Visakhapatnam. The train will carry only Bharat Darshan tourists.

The train will start from Madurai on May 23, and will pass through Kerala on May 24. The cost of the tour package is `7,500, which includes non-AC sleeper class ticket, non-AC accommodation, non-AC buses for sight-seeing and vegetarian food.

The unique features of the package include tourist guards and security guards on each of the 10 coaches, which includes the pantry car, audio system for important announcements, music, and on and off-board catering services. Railway Revenue Earnings during Fiscal 2013-2014

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the financial year 2013-14 were Rs. 140485.02 crore compared to Rs. 121831.65 crore during the same period last year.

The total goods earnings crore during fiscal 2013-14 were Rs. 94925.02 core compare to Rs. 82852.54 crore during the same period last year.

The total passenger revenue earnings during the financial year 2013-14 were Rs. 37478.03 crore compared to Rs. 31896.22 crore during the same period last year.

The approximate revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 3818.04 crore during fiscal 2013-14 compared to Rs. 3137.92 crore during the same period last year.

The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during the financial year 2013-14 were 8535.00 million compared to 8602.12 million during the same period last year. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during fiscal 2013-14 were 4549.85 million and 3985.15 million compared to 4473.38 million and 4128.74 million during the same period last year. 

Indian Railways Carry 1053.54 Million Tonnes of Freight During Fiscal 2013-14

Indian Railways have carried 1053.54 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during the financial year 2013-14. The freight carried shows an increase of 43.68 million tonnes over the freight traffic of 1009.86 million tonnes actually carried during the corresponding period last year. 

During the month of March 2014, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by Indian Railways was 100.49 million tonnes. There is an increase of 2.15 million tonnes over the actual freight traffic of 98.34 million tonnes carried by the Indian Railways during the same period last year.

59th Railway Week Award Function of Railway Board Celebrated

Railway Board celebrated the 59th Railway Week Award function-2014 here today. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman, Railway Board Shri Arunendra Kumar said that it was due to the untiring efforts and dedication of the railwaymen that today Indian Railways has made remarkable progress in achieving important goals and targets. 
Shri Arunendra Kumar presented Running Efficiency Shield, to two sections jointly viz. ERB-VI and Health, selected as ‘Best Kept Sections’ for maintaining high standard of efficiency, prompt disposal of cases and excellent up-keep of records. Besides this, Merit Certificates and Cash Awards were presented to four other well maintained sections. In addition, 118 officers/staff of Railway Board received Merit Certificates and Cash Awards for their outstanding performance during the year 2013-14. A total number of 34 sportspersons and 7 artists were felicitated with Appreciation Letters and Cash Awards for their outstanding performance in the Inter-Ministry, All India Civil Services and Inter-Railway Competitions. Five awards were presented to Horticulture staff of Rail Bhawan and National Rail Museum for their excellent work. 
Shri Arunendra Kumar congratulated the award winners for putting in their best performance and hoped that they would rededicate themselves to produce better results in the future. 

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Railway Board, Shri P.C.Gajbhiya said that Railway Week is celebrated every year to encourage and felicitate railwaymen for their outstanding performance during the year. Congratulating the award winners, Shri Gajbhiya said that their performances were encouraging and a total number of 170 officers/staff of Railway Board have received the awards in various categories for their excellent performance during the year 2013-14.

Maintenance works: trains to be cancelled

Ernakulam Town एर्नाकुलम टाउन (ERN): Train numbers 66307 and 66308, Ernakulam– Kollam MEMU service leaving Ernakulam at 5.15 am and its return trip leaving Kollam at 11.15 am will be cancelled from April 12 (Saturday) to April 17 (Thursday), because of track and signal maintenance at Ernakulam Town station and on tracks towards Kottayam direction.

The works will conclude on April 29. Here is the list of trains partly cancelled. Train No. 56365/56366, fast passenger service between Guruvayur and Punalur will be cancelled between Edappally and Punalur on April 11 (Friday).

Train No. 56392 Kollam – Ernakulam Passenger via Kottayam leaving Kollam at 4.20 am will terminate at Tripunithura from April 11 (Friday) to April 17 (Thursday).

To be detained

Train No. 16302, Venad Express towards Shoranur is likely to be detained at Tripunithura station for 30 minutes on April 11 (Friday). Train No. 56365, Guruvayur- Punalur fast passenger is likely to be detained at Ernakulam Town station for 30 minutes from April 12 (Saturday) to April 17 (Thursday).

ECR earned Rs.11500 Crore during 2013-14, GM says

Patna पटना (PNBE): East Central Railway (ECR) celebrated the 59th Railway Week at a function at Sri Krishna Memorial hall where 348 railway officials and employees from its five divisions were awarded for their outstanding services on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, ECR GM Madhuresh Kumar lauded the railway officials and employees for their contribution to the development of railways in the zone since its inception in 2002. “It is due to their hard work that ECR could earn about Rs 11,500 crore during 2013-2014, a record in the zone,” he said, adding ECR joined the club of Rs 10,000 crore-earning zones of Indian Railways in 2012-13 itself.

Kumar said ECR made a record earning in the passenger segment while it loaded about 106 million tonne freight during 2013-2014 fiscal year. “The railways has improved punctuality, particularly of mail and express trains, this year. Besides, railways has installed escalators and built foot overbridges at different stations of ECR to further improve passenger amenities under the zone,” he said.

According to the GM, the railways carried out massive passenger amenities work under all the five divisions of the ECR. As many as 18 new trains were introduced under the zone during 2013-2014 while 19 passenger trains were given extended run. About 436 extra coaches were attached to long-distance passenger trains and 46 special trains run from different divisions of ECR to clear rush of passengers, he said.

He said the railways has been carrying out various projects in the ECR. While work on the ambitious rail- cum- road bridge over the Ganga at Digha-Sonepur site has been going on in full swing, 123km new lines were laid by railways in ECR during 2013-2014. Similarly, about 46km gauge conversion work was carried out under the zone. The railways also completed 80km new line work between Koderma and Hazaribagh in Jharkhand despite odds, he said.

The GM distributed shields, awards and certificates to railway officials and employees for their outstanding work. While Dhanbad division was declared overall champion, Mughalsarai division lifted the runner-up shield. Dhanbad division was also given cleanliness trophy in the major station category while Sonepur division was given cleanliness trophy in the middle station category.

The signal and telecom shield was also bagged by Dhanbad division for better maintenance while operating category award was jointly bagged by Dhanbad and Mughalsarai divisions. In the health and better medical upkeep category, Patna railway super specialty hospital bagged the trophy. The power conservation trophy was given to Sonepur division while ticket checking shield was bagged by Samastipur division.
