Would commence Metro Rail services within 7 days of receiving Railway Board nod: RInfra

मुंबई Mumbai: Reliance Infrastructure, which is operating the Mumbai Metro, has said that it would commence the services within seven days of receiving the Railway Board nod for the rolling.

The company has already received the final safety clearance certificate from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CRMS) to launch the services, a Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) spokesperson said in a statement here.

“We are happy to advise that CMRS after carrying out intensive safety inspection has given its sanction for opening the line,” the statement said.

The company is now just awaiting approval of Rolling Stock from the Railway Board, for which the papers have been submitted on April 22, 2014, the company said adding, “We will open the line for commercial usage within seven days of such approval.”

Recently, the Union Urban Department Ministry brought the Mumbai Metro One under the Central Metro Act, allowing the operator to fix the fare structure, which was the bone of contention between Anil Ambani-promoted RInfra and the state government.

As per the state government’s notification, the minimum fare was to be Rs 9 and maximum Rs 13 in the first year.

Later, after every four years, the fares were to increase by 11 per cent and at the end of the 35-year concession period (2044-45) the minimum fare was to be Rs 24 and maximum Rs 37.

MMOPL, however, now maintains that the fares notified by the state earlier are no longer applicable and that the new fares would be affordable

Interbrand India wins L&T Hyderabad Metro assignment

L&T is looking to establish and brand the substantial assets around its Hyderabad Metro Project

हैदराबाद Hyderabad: Joining a client roster that includes Mahindra, Godrej, Bajaj Auto, PepsiCo, Etisalat, Interbrand India has announced that it has begun consulting for infrastructure major L&T. L&T, one of the best-known, progressive Indian brands, is looking to establish and brand the substantial asset classes around its Hyderabad Metro Project as one of the transformative developments impacting the social, cultural and economic aspects of the city as well as instilling pride in its heritage.

The Interbrand offices in Mumbai and London will carry out the assignment.

Interbrand, the world’s leading brand consultancy, has entered its second year of operations in India. After a successful first year which also saw the local office launching the inaugural edition of the ‘Best Indian Brands’, Interbrand India is looking at driving growth and expanding by engaging some of the leading brands from its table and helping them get stronger with their strategic brand navigation journeys.

The India office offers Interbrand’s complete suite of brand consulting services including brand strategy, audit/evaluation, design, brand management and verbal identity. Indian brands are seeking to enter international markets at an increasing rate and Interbrand India is uniquely positioned to help them grow into global brands.

V.B. Gadgil, CEO & MD, L&T Metro opined “We are quite excited to get Interbrand on board for this prestigious assignment of creating the brand identity of our Transit oriented development business. They displayed both their ideas and strategic rigour for what they are known for during their pitch presentation. However, more than that it was clarity of thought, good comprehension of the brief and their enthusiasm which won them the business. We look forward to them gelling well with our organisation and taking our vision forward and reshaping it in a unique and compelling way.”

Ashish Mishra, Managing Director, Interbrand India, said, “We believe branding needs to create value, which is why the strategic definition process is important. How would branding create a premium for the land parcels over and above the market rates, how would it create and sustain preference among the stakeholders across the retail or hospitality formats – these are the key questions it all boils down to. So clearly our approach doesn’t limit itself to the expression side of design and communications that the Indian market is familiar with. We encourage our partners to see branding from an ROI perspective and L&T is a progressive organisation that appreciates it.”

Gurgaon’s Rapid Metro Cyber City station opens

IndusInd Bank owns Branding Rights with Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon

गुड़गांव Gurgaon (GGN): After a delay of over a year, the Cyber City Rapid Metro station located at Shankar Chowk finally opened on Friday for public. Although the formal launch is likely to happen next week, the unofficial opening of the station, the sixth in the 5.1-kilometre network, provides connectivity to hundreds of office-goers in Cyber City and Udyog Vihar area.

According to sources, the mandatory nod from the commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS) was receiveda couple of days ago. “We have received the clearance that we had been waiting for and decided to open this strategically located station immediately without any further delay. The official launch will take place next week,” said a source.

Rapid Metro authorities have tied up with several corporate entities to brand their six stations in Phase I and sources attributed the delay in the formal launch of the station to the non-availability of the brand partner, which in this case is a private bank.

For hundreds of employees working in Cyber City, the launch came as a pleasant surprise. “I was not aware that the train would stop at this station. I usually get down at the Phase II station and walk to my office in Gateway Tower. However, on Friday morning when I got into the train I heard that the train would stop at this station. I can now save at least five minutes,” said Pooja Singh, an executive.

There are two foot overbridges that connect this station to Gateway Tower side and Cyber Hub. The first is around 85 metres while the second is 120 metres. Authorities hope that within the first quarter this station will receive the maximum number of footfall. Right now, the Phase II station receives the maximum footfall.

“This station has opened at the best possible time considering the rising temperatures. The walk to my office in Cyber Hub will be more comfortable now,” said Rajeev Kumar, a banker.

Ahmedabad Metro: MEGA to build Metro Depots at Gyaspur, Apparel Park

अहमदाबाद Ahmedabad (ADI): The Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro rail will have its first set of depots at two major locations in the city. One of these will be built at Gyaspur, which will cater to the needs of north-south corridor and the second at Apparel Park for the east-west corridor. According to the Metrorail Express Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad (MEGA) officials, the locations of the two depots have been finalized.

“The depots are being developed with heavy repair facilities, stabling and light inspection facilities and will have test tracks. MEGA is now in the process of appointing a general engineering consultant for the construction works,” said an official.

MEGA has retained the third rail technology for powering the metro rail instead of overhead power lines. The track will be of the standard gauge. According to the detailed project report prepared by MEGA, the phase-1 is scheduled to be commissioned in October 2018, which includes two distinct routes.

The east-west corridor will consist of double track elevated lines, as between Thaltej Gam Station and Ashram Road that is 7.9km including the portion coming on Sabarmati riverbed. Another double track elevated line will be between Apparel Park Station and Vastral Gam, which is 6.04km. There is an underground stretch of about 7km starting from Shahpur Station and ending at Apparel Park station. The second stretch is the north-south corridor which consists of double track elevated line between APMC station and Ashram Road that is about 6.8km and further a double track elevated line between elevated portion after Ashram Road Station and Motera Station, which is about 8.73km.

“The decision on depots was critical to the metro plan. The construction will begin soon,” said a senior MEGA official.

Tripura gets positive nod from Bangladesh for using Anshuganj Port

अगरतला Agartala (AGTL): Tripura government’s alternative effort to bring essential items by using Ashuganj port of Bangladesh has got positive response from the competent authority, said Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bhanu Lal Saha.

Speaking at the Civil Secretariat, he said the State government has already forwarded a proposal to bring 10,000 MT food grains by using Ashuganj port in Bangladesh as part of contingency plan.

“We have received a positive response from MoFE on the issue. The MoFE assured to take up the matter with Dhaka so that food grains could be brought to Tripura by using Bangla port after suspension of train service”, he said.

The government plans to bring the consignment from Bishakhapattanam (Andhra Pradesh) to Agartala via Ashuganj (Bangladesh). “The matter is yet to be cleared by the Dhaka. If Dhaka clears the proposal, then we will try to get the clearance renewed by the Bangladesh authority for another few months”, he said.

Saha said the State needs 30,000 MT food grains in a month. The government plans to bring 10,000 MT food grains by using Bangla port while the remaining 20,000 MT essential items could be brought through Assam and Agartala national highway (NH-44).

The contingency plan has been mulled as the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has already informed the State government about the suspension of train service due to BG conversion work from Lumding to Agartala.

The BG conversion work is scheduled to take place in between October 2014 to March 2015. During the period, the train services will remain suspended that might bring trouble for the people living in the landlocked State.

Sources claimed the NFR will undertake the BG conversion work from October, this year.

Yes, we are interested in GE’s Rail Signaling business: Alstom’s CEO Patrick Kron

पॅरिस Paris: French engineering group Alstom has finally declared that it has more interest in General Electric’s rail signaling activities than its freight train business, Chief Executive Patrick Kron said on Wednesday.

The French government has said the U.S. conglomerate’s offer to take over Alstom’s power and grid business is not acceptable as it stands and has suggested a deal that would also combine the two companies’ rail businesses.

Kron called GE’s freight locomotives business a “niche” activity, however, that was very U.S.-centered and unlikely to bring synergies with Alstom’s transport business. Rail signaling, meanwhile, was a segment the French firm was eager to expand into.

“I’m much more interested in signaling activities than in diversifying into a business in which we are not present,” Kron told reporters on a conference call.

Kron also restated that Alstom would also give rival Siemens fair access to its books to enable the German company to make a competing binding offer.

“We have been in touch with Siemens and its advisers and now the possibility for them to make a move is perfectly open,” Kron said.

Income Tax Dept. hints ‘risk’ in revealing PAN Number for train ticket reservations in Railways

नयी दिल्ली New Delhi: Citing one’s personal account number while booking railway tickets can be a security hazard as the Indian Railway displays the PAN, name, sex and age of passengers on the reservation charts. All it takes is for someone to note down these numbers and use them for benami transactions.

It is mandatory for traders like jewellers to collect TCS (Tax Collection at Source) from customers on purchase of jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh and bullion worth Rs 2 lakh and a false PAN in these cases comes in handy for them.

The numbers can be misused in several other ways like quoting the PAN of the house owner while showing tax savings etc. Income-tax officials, thus, say that the PAN details should not be divulged, unless for tax purposes, to remain immune from income-tax frauds.

Many passengers provide their PAN for Tatkal bookings leading to the number and name of the holder coming into public domain.

“In fact, financial fraudsters and jewellers are always on the lookout for PAN details, just like phone numbers and e-mail IDs are sought by marketing companies, online fraudsters and bulk spam mail senders. This crucial information is bought by fraudsters and jewellers to keep their transactions clean on paper,” said an Income Tax official.

The Railways lists more than 10 options for proof of identity for Internet as well as for Tatkal bookings.

While PAN card is one of them, Aadhaar card, voters’ photo identity card, passport, driving licence, credit cards with photographs issued by the banks, passbook of any nationalised bank with a photograph, student identity card and photo identity card issued by the Central or state government are among the other options.

“It is advised to avoid quoting PAN details for identity proof at any source other than income tax-related matters. In fact, PAN, TAN and other such details should not be given out to your consultants and assistants as well,” added the official.

Chennai blasts probe: Clean chit to suspects; no fresh leads

चेन्‍नई Chennai (MAS): The suspect in the Chennai railway station blasts case, a man captured on the CCTV, has been given a clean chit by the probe authorities. The man was traced down to Sri Lanka where he is on vacation.

The CB-CID, which is probing the case, said that the man in the CCTV foo‎tage had come out of the train moments before the blasts and was seen making a hurried exit. This man, belonging to Kerala, had boarded the Bangalore-Guwahati express and from Chennai was to leave for Sri Lanka on a vacation.

The police prepared sketches of this man and had pasted in important locations. The man, however, called the Chennai cops on seeing his hazy images being flashed on television. He was asked several questions and he said he had rushed out only because he was running late to catch his flight to Sri Lanka.

CB-CID Deputy Superintendent of Police Venkatraman S informed that his replies were convincing and he is no longer being treated as a suspect.

The police officer informed that the other suspect, who was questioned too, has also been given a clean chit. This suspect was seen with a tablet near his face.

The police at first thought that he was intentionally hiding his face from the camera but later it was found that he was speaking on the tablet, ‎Venkatraman S said.

The probe is now back to square one and all the investigators are still clueless. There is a great deal that the officers are yet to find out. They are still not sure from where the bomb was loaded.

The organisation behind it is also unknown and the police are basing a lot of facts on the bomb signature. There are similarities to the Patna bombs, but that is hardly even a strong point for the police to come to any conclusion.

The police have also requested the help of their counterparts in Madhya Pradesh to try and ascertain if some splinter group of the Students Islamic Movement of India coordinated with the modules in Bangalore and Kerala to undertake this attack.

TN Police announces Rs.5 Lakh cash reward for identification of terrorists

No Major Headway in Probe into Blasts at Central

चेन्‍नई Chennai (MAS): Tamil Nadu Police today announced a cash reward of Rs five lakh to for any information leading to the identification or arrest of culprits behind last week’s twin bomb blasts in a train here that killed a woman.

It has been seven days since the twin blasts occurred on Kaziranga Express while stabled at Chennai Central railway station in which one died and 14 others injured. But, the CB-CID which is probing the incident has not made much progress in identifying the outfit or the members behind the blasts.

In the first official presser, the CB-CID released a CCTV grab showing a man on trot after alighting from the train soon after it was stationed and claimed that they need to verify the unusual movement of that passenger who on investigation turned out to be a genuine passenger from Kerala.

Meanwhile, the suspicion needle fell on a duo that did not embark on their further journey post-blast, though they had tickets booked up to Malda and Guwahati. Bo-th these passengers began their journey from Bangalore station, which was the originating station. They travelled in S4 and S5 where the blasts occurred one after the other. All the passengers who were on these two bogies were interrogated by the CB-CID to ascertain who left the duffel bag stuffed with bombs and when it was planted.

Meanwhile, the National Security Guards who inspected the site ascertained similarities between the bombs triggered here and those went off at Patna ahead of the rallies of BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi.

The role of Indian Mujahideen (IM) was suspected since the analog timers found in both the sites had their seconds hand removed. However, there was not mu-ch tangible evidence to prove the role of IM as well.

CB-CID was planning to probe the IM men who had been jailed in connection with the Patna blasts. A senior police official privy to the probe told that the investigations were heading in the right direction and they were in the process of solving the case. Asked about the identities of the duo that did not continue their journey beyond Chennai, the official said that they were probing whether they had any role in the blasts.

“If any suspicious activity was noticed at the stations, on the platform or in train, the details may be communicated. A reward of upto Rs five lakh will be given for any information leading to the identification of the offenders or their apprehension”, DGP K Ramanujam said.

Crime Branch-CID investigating the May 1 low-intensity blasts on Bangalore-Guwahati Express, that also left 14 persons injured, was pursuing all clues collected from the scene and leads furnished by passengers and a vast amount of CCTV footage was collected and being scrutinized, he said. “To supplement the information, CBCID requests the public to come forward with any information they may have about the incident”, he said in a statement. He said any individual who has photographs or videographs taken at any of the stations on the route or in the train during its journey on April 30 and May 1 could pass them on if they contain images of unknown or suspicious persons, adding the identity of the person providing information would be kept confidential.

The public could contact phone numbers 7708654202 or 044-22502500 or 22502510 or Email:cbcyber@nic.In, the release added. Meanwhile, police arrested a man hailing from Bangalore for making an anonymous call yesterday that a bomb would explode in the central station, which turned out to be a hoax after a thorough search. S Sivakumar, a school drop-out, had made the hoax call yesterday morning and was arrested from Villupuram, about 160 km from here, police said. He was produced before a city court which remanded him to judicial custody, they said. According to police, he disclosed he had made the call to create panic in the minds of commuters and wanted to see that it was covered by the media.

Police said they also found that he had cheated some people of money after falsely promising help in locating missing persons. A 24-year-old woman, employed with TCS in Bangalore, lost her life while 14 others injured in the blasts that had occurred soon after the train pulled into platform number nine at the Central Railway Station.
