6 Premium AC Specials between Mumbai and Karmali during Ganpati Festival


Central Railway has decided to 6 run Premium Weekly AC specials between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Karmali to clear the extra rush of passengers during Ganapati festival. The details are as under -

Train No. 02045 Premium Weekly AC Special will leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 01.10 hrs o­n Thursday 28.8.2014, 4.9.2014 and 11.9.2014 (3 trips) and arrive Karmali at 11.30 hrs same day.

Train No. 02046 Premium Weekly AC Special will leave Karmali at 11.55 hrs o­n Thursday 28.8.2014, 4.9.2014 and 11.9.2014 (3 trips) and arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 22.15 hrs same day.

HALTS: Thane, Panvel, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, and Kudal

COMPOSITION: o­ne AC First class, Three AC-2 Tier, 8 AC-3 Tier, o­ne AC Pantry car and 2 Generator cum Guards' brake van.

Indian Railways Eliminated 2420 Unmanned Level Crossings in Last Two Years

Indian Railways has eliminated 2420 unmanned level crossings at a total cost of Rs. 1,936 crore in last two years i.e. 2012-13 and 2013-14 and 2014-15 (upto June 2014). At the beginning of the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17), there were 13,530 unmanned level crossings. 

Modalities for elimination of unmanned level crossings by various methods like manning, provision of RUBs/Subways, merger and closure can be worked out based on availability of funds and cooperation from the State Government.

8.54 Crore Senior Citizens And 21.57 Lakh Patients Availed Concessions for Train Journey During 2013-14

During the year 2013-14, a total number of 8.54 crore senior citizens and 21.57 lakh patients (including attendant) availed concessions provided for these two categories of travellers. The revenue foregone due to concessions in passenger fare for senior citizens and patients were Rs.932.73 crore and Rs.59.31 crore respectively. 

The following reservation facilities in trains have been provided by Indian Railways to senior citizens, patients and disabled persons:- 

• In all trains having reserved accommodation, a combined quota of two lower berths per coach has been earmarked in Sleeper, AC-3 tier and AC-2 tier for senior citizens, Female passengers of 45 years of age and above and pregnant women when travelling alone. 

• A reservation quota of two Sleeper class berths has been earmarked in all trains running on non-suburban section for handicapped persons and their attendants performing journey on handicapped concessional ticket. 

• Specially designed unreserved coaches known as SLRD coaches are also attached for physically handicapped persons in a large number of long distance Mail/Express trains. 

• Some berths are set aside for patients ailing from cancer and their companions under the Cancer patient quota provided on a large number of Mail/Express trains. 

• Direct access to limited number of berths earmarked under Emergency Quota has also been extended to Cancer Patients and their attendants travelling on concession.

Status of Indo-Bangladesh Rail Link Projects


The details and the present status of Agartala-Sabroom and ongoing project between India and Bangladesh viz. Agartala-Akhaura new line are as under:- 

Agartala-Sabroom (110 Km), New Line: The project, which falls fully in the State of Tripura, has been taken up at a cost of Rs. 1741 crore and an expenditure of Rs. 596 crore has been incurred upto March, 2014. An outlay of Rs. 500 crore has been provided during 2014-15. Earthwork, bridges & track linking works have been taken up. 

Agartala(India)-Akahaura(Bangladesh) (15 km), New Line: Project was included in Budget 2012-13 at an anticipated cost of Rs. 252 crore. Memorandum of Understanding between India and Bangladesh has been signed in February, 2013. An expenditure of Rs. 10 crore has been incurred upto March, 2014 and an outlay of Rs. 100 crore has been provided during 2014-15 for this project. Land acquisition has been taken up. 

This is the only project for which agreement has been entered into between India and Bangladesh for rail connectivity. 

A Reconnaissance Engineering cum Traffic Survey for providing rail connectivity between Belonia (India) (which is a station on under-construction Agartala-Sabroom new line project) and Belonia (Bangladesh) has been taken up.

ICF & RCF Manufactured 519 & 386 Coaches Respectively During April to July 2014

Integral Coach Factory (ICF), and Rail Coach Factory (RCF), production units of Indian Railways, have produced 519 and 386 coaches during 1st April to 31st July 2014 respectively. 

A new Rail Coach Factory at Rae Bareli is being set up with an installed capacity of 1000 coaches. Production at Rae Bareli Coach Factory has commenced and turned out 130 coaches during 2013-14 and 41 coaches upto July, 2014. 

The Production/Acquisition target of coaches for the year 2014-15 is 3658. Indian Railways does not import coaches to meet annual production/acquisition targets.

Railways Takes Steps to Further Bring Down its Operating Ratio

It is a continuous endeavour of the Indian Railways to bring down the operating ratio by controlling expenditure and increasing revenues. The Operating Ratio of the Indian Railways was 94.9% in 2011-12, 90.2 per cent in 2012-13 and 93.5 per cent in 2013-14(Provisional). Budget Estimates 2014-15 envisage an operating ratio of 92.5 per cent. 

Steps taken for maximizing the traffic earnings, inter-alia, include rationalization of fare and freight tariff, effective marketing strategies to capture more and more traffic, creation of additional capacity and optimum utilization of the existing rail infrastructure, improved throughput by steps to increase productivity and efficiency, improvement of passenger interface etc. Railways are making efforts to contain expenditure through diverse means including strict economy and austerity measures, improved man-power planning, better asset utilization and inventory management, optimizing fuel consumption etc. This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.
