Indian Railways’ Freight Loading UP by 4.79 Per Cent During April-October 2014

Indian Railways carried 621.66 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during 1st April to 31st October 2014. The freight carried shows an increase of 28.41 million tonnes over the freight traffic of 593.25 million tonnes actually carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 4.79 per cent. 

During the month of October 2014, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by Indian Railways was 89.22 million tonnes. There is an increase of 6.97 million tonnes over the actual freight traffic of 82.25 million tonnes carried by the Indian Railways during the same period last year, showing an increase of 8.47 per cent.

Temporary Closure of National Rail Museum Till 6th December 2014

National Rail Museum, Chankyapuri, New Delhi, is carrying out major restoration and renovation work of the life size exhibits. Most of the life size exhibits (some of them are more than 100 years old) are being restored/reconstructed to its original glory and appearance by various Railway workshops/units. Additional facilities & activities are being provided in the Museum. 

Majority of works are being carried out by Rail India Technical and Economic Society (RITES) and it is intended to open a large section of the Museum to the public somewhere in second week of December 2014. To facilitate smooth work progress, the Museum has been kept closed for public till 6th December 2014.

Railways’ Revenue Earnings up by 12.06 per cent during April 2014 - October 2014

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during 1st April 2014 to 31st October 2014 were Rs. 86595.04 crore compared to Rs. 77273.88 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.06 per cent. 

The total approximate earnings from goods during 1st April 2014 – 31st October 2014 were Rs. 57646.68 crore compared to Rs. 51877.98 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.12 per cent. 

The total approximate revenue earnings from passengers during 1st April 2014 – 31st October 2014 were Rs. 24716.97 crore compared to Rs. 21247.64 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 16.33 percent. 

The approximate revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs.2331.36 crore during April 2014 – October 2014 compared to Rs. 2187.47 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 6.58 per cent. 

The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during 1st April 2014 – 31st October 2014 were 4918.57 million compared to 4965.00 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 0.94 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the numbers of passengers booked during April 2014 - October 2014 were 2664.95 million and 2253.62 million compared to 2655.67 million and 2309.33 million registering an increase of 0.35 per cent and a decrease of 2.41 per cent respectively during the same period last year.

RailTel Bags ‘Aegis Graham Bell’ Awards 2014

RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. a public sector undertaking of Ministry of Railways added yet another jewel in its crown by bagging the ‘Aegis Graham Bell Awards 2014’. This award is organized by Aegis School of Business and Convergence, India with support of Cellular Operator Association of India (COAI), Telecom Center of Excellence (TCOE) and Deloitte. Aegis Graham Bell Awards is an initiative to promote innovation in the field of Telecom, Internet, Media and Edutainment (TIME) and to provide recognition for outstanding contributions. 

Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu Takes Over as Minister of Railways

Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu took over charge as Minister of Railways here today. Speaking to media persons soon after taking over, Shri Prabhu said that we will fulfill passengers’ expectations of providing comfort, safety and good catering services. The Indian Railways is growth engine for country’s economy and has the potential to give further boost to country’s economic development He has directed the railway Board to launch a web portal soon for receiving suggestions, feedback, questions etc. He also held a meeting with Chairman, Railway Board, Board Members and senior officials of Railway Board soon after taking over the charge. The Railway Minister also held discussions with representatives of various federations of railway employees. 

Railways and Roads Sign MoU on Policy Related to Constructions of Robs/Rubs on National Highway Corridors

Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Road Transport & Highways signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on policy related to constructions of ROBs/RUBs on National Highway corridors, here today. The MoU was signed in the presence of the Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu and the Minister of Road Transport & Highways Shri Nitin Jairam Gadkari. The Minister of Railways Shri Manoj Sinha and Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways Shri Pon Radhakrishnan were also present on the occasion. Shri S.K.Pathak, Executive Director CE/B&S, Railway Board and Shri A.P.Pathak, Chief Engineer (Bridges), Ministry of Road Transport & Highways were signatories to the MoU. 
Central railways announced revised Mumbai Local Train time table (Central Line) effective from 15 - 11 - 2014. On this revised train time table Total Number services will not change 825 (809 services of 12-car and 16 services of 15-car) But the total passenger will increase from 44572 to 45220 However Central railways extend several trains north of Kurla to Kalyan. Also increase the speed of the trains. During this change another achievement is Kalyan - Thane services increases from 410 to 423.

Kalyan – Dadar local will leave Kalyan at 09.16 hrs and arrive Dadar at 10.25 hrs.
Kalyan – Thane local will leave Kalyan at 11.07 hrs and arrive Thane at 11.38 hrs.
Khopoli - Karjat local will leave Khopoli at 21.07 hrs and arrive Karjat at 21.32 hrs.
Karjat – Khopoli local will leave Karjat at 21.40 hrs and arrive Khopoli at 22.05 hrs.

Kalyan - CST local leaving Kalyan at 05.52 hrs is extended and will leave Ex Titwala at 05.36 hrs.
Titwala - Kurla local leaving Titwala at 06.50 hrs is extended up-to CST.
Badlapur-Dadar local leaving Badlapur at 09.02 hrs is extended up-to CST.
Asangaon- Kalyan local leaving Asangaon at 07.10 hrs is extended up-to CST.
CST-Thane local leaving CST at 17.00 hrs is extended up-to Kalyan. 
CST-Kurla local leaving CST at 17.04 hrs is extended upto Thane.
CST-Kurla local leaving CST at 18.17 hrs is extended upto Kalyan.
Kurla-Dombivli local leaving Kurla at 20.05 hrs is extended upto Kalyan.
Kalyan-CST local leaving Kalyan at 05.21 hrs is extended and will leave Ex Ambernath at 05.05 hrs.
Ambernath-CST local leaving Ambernath at 05.46 hrs is extended and will leave Ex Badlapur at 05.41 hrs.
Kalyan-CST local leaving Kalyan at 06.40 hrs is extended and will leave Ex Badlapur at 06.14 hrs.

Features of This New Train Time Table 

All services on CST-Kalyan Fast Corridor
Kalyan-Khopoli section and Kalyan-Kasara section will run with new DC-AC rakes and old DC-AC rakes which are having speed limit of 100 kmph.
Speeding up of trains – on fast corridor between CST – Kalyan from 60” to 58” (saving of 2 minutes), on South-East section between Kalyan – Karjat from 54” to 50” (saving of 4 minutes) and on North-East section between Kalyan – Kasara from 75” to 70” (saving of 5 minutes).
Services on Thane – Kalyan section increased from 410 to 423.4. Additional services from Badlapur leaving at 05.49 hrs, 06.14 hrs and 06.47 hrs. Prior to this the first local was leaving Badlapur at 06.57 hrs.
one additional service in morning peak hours between Kalyan – Dadar.
Last local connection for CST bound passengers from Asangaon side. The last local leaving Badlapur at 23.50 hrs is extended from Thane to CST will connect to Asangaon-Kalyan local terminating at Kalyan. This train will now leave at 23.32 hrs Ex Asangaon instead of 23.47 hrs which will enable passengers to catch the extended Badlapur-CST local at Kalyan.
Enhancement of night corridor blocks on suburban section to improve asset reliability. The last local from CST (CST-Karjat local) will leave at 00.30 hrs against existing time of 00.38 hrs and the first local (CST-Kasara local) will leave at 04.12 hrs against existing time of 04.05 hrs.
