The Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu said that the security of Railways means security of millions of common people who travel in the train and hence it is an important responsibility. The Minister pointed out that he is aware of difficult conditions and circumstances in which Railway Protection Force (RPF) and General Railway Police (GRP) personnel have to perform. He said that there is a need for seamless security arrangement for the travelling people. Shri Suresh Prabhu said that a meeting of all Heads of Police of all the States Governments has been convened in Delhi on 15th January, 2015 to discuss the best security arrangements for the travelling public and wok won a mechanism to ensure effective security. This meeting will also be addressed by the Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh.

Railways’ Revenue Earnings up by 12.57 per cent during April 2014 - December 2014

he total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during 1st April 2014 to 31st December 2014 were Rs. 114656.13 crore compared to Rs. 101856.45 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.57 per cent. 

The total approximate earnings from goods during 1st April 2014 – 31st December 2014 were Rs. 77161.55 crore compared to Rs. 68776.35 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.19 per cent. 

The total approximate revenue earnings from passengers during 1st April 2014 – 31st December 2014 were Rs. 31955.07 crore compared to Rs. 27646.13 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 15.59 percent. 

The approximate revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs.3021.94 crore during April 2014 – December 2014 compared to Rs. 2862.19 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 5.58 per cent.

Traffic Block on Pen-Roha Section on 9.1.2015 for Doubling

Central Railway will operate Traffic Block o­n Friday 9.1.2015 from 11.50 hrs to 16.20 hrs for carrying out various engineering works in Pen - Kasu, Kasu - Nagothane and Nagothane - Roha sections.

Concern over closure of railway station

The Heritage Steam Chariot Trust, a non-government organisation, working for the preservation of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, has expressed concern over the recent closure of the Hillgrove station due to operational reasons and poor patronage. Regretting that the stations were being closed one afteranother, K. Natarajan, founder of the Trust, said that already Katteri and Runneymede had been closed and Adderlie had almost disappeared.

Private players free to choose any railway station for revamp

NEW DELHI: Private players can select any of around 8,000 stations across the country for revamping and transforming it as a world class station. 

The government has visualized that these stations would be equipped with escalators, shopping outlets, restaurants and Wi-Fi- enabled waiting lounges. Railways minister Suresh Prabhu has come out with a new policy wherein the national transporter would not select 10 or 50 stations to be developed into world class stations, but it would be left for the private developers to select a particular station.

Soon, you will be able to hire someone who will receive you at station when your train arrives, take care of your luggage and other hassles and then drop you home in a secure cab — all in a package deal offered by Railways on its ticket-booking website.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to flag off three trains today

New Delhi: Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will today flag off three trains from Anand Vihar station in New Delhi. Two trains are for West Bengal while the third one is for Bihar. Train services for Saharasa in Bihar, and Malda and Santragachi in West Bengal will be flagged off today said a senior Railway Ministry official. These trains were announced by the then Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda, who was later replaced by Suresh Prabhu in Rail Budget 2014-15.

Andhra MPs urge Centre to grant more trains, new railway lines

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh MPs on Tuesday urged South Central Railway (SCR) general manager PK Srivastava to send a report to the Centre seeking more trains and new railway lines for the state. 

The MPs also sought additional stops for all important trains at small towns to help people living in the countryside. Srivastava, who held a meeting with the MPs in the city on Tuesday, promised to forward the proposals to the Railway Board for inclusion in the next railway budget.
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani sought more funds for the Vijayawada division and the city railway station as it falls under the state capital region. He demanded that one of the express trains originating at Vijayawada railway station should be named after Indrakeeladri ghat. The MP also wanted new trains connecting Vijayawada and Mumbai, and Ahmedabad and Howrah. He also hoped that the proposed Rajdhani Express from Vijayawada be introduced without further delay.

Indian Railways to be part of Vibrant Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: Indian Railways will also be a part of the 7th Gujarat Global Trade Show — 2015 to be held at the at helipad ground area in Gandhinagar. The show is part of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and Vibrant Gujarat Investors Summit to be held between January 7 and January 13.
Railways has decided to have give its stall the mixed look of a railway tunnel and a railway coach and is spread over 510 square metres.

On display at the Railway stall will be a steam engine and toy train model of the first train trial run between Ahmedabad and Grant Road approximately 150 years ago, in 1864.

Beside this, the stall has things like the chains used in daily operations, tea coasters and mementos made by Western Railway and items from the National Rail Museum. One part of the Indian Railways stall consists of a pictorial representation of important railway projects by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.
