नई दिल्ली New Delhi: This year’s rail budget may not see any big ticket announcements with railway minister Suresh Prabhu keen on abandoning the populist path to bring the transporter’s financial health back on track.
Since assuming charge, Prabhu has shown his keenness to bring in fundamental changes in the manner in which the railways have been operating over the years, resulting in a financial mess.
The focus will be on prioritizing pending projects and fast-tracking their implementation while resisting temptation to announce populist projects, said an official involved in the budget-making process. The minister has been stressing on expediting completion of pending projects to prevent further cost escalation. Projects worth around Rs two lakh crore are pending.
