Lucknow Metro to offer pick and drop facility

LUCKNOW: Public in Lucknow will not only get to ride on metro by 2017, they may also look forward to getting pick and drop facility at metro station from their locality through feeder services. The services would of course be chargeable, but fare would be kept minimum.

On recommendations of the state government, Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) has decided to conduct a feasibility study of the usage of feeder services at different metro routes and stations. LMRC managing director Kumar Keshav said, "We will rope in a consultant to conduct feasibility study at different metro locations to find out the extent of ridership and number of feeder services required."

He added that a tender would be floated in next 10-15 days to select the agency. The agency will also suggest modes of transport feasible in different locations. Keshav said the agency's recommendations will then be sent to concerned government departments like PWD, urban development, transport, urban planning, etc to help in running the feeder services.

The options of feeder services are many, including buses like in Delhi, non-motorised vehicles, e-rickshaws, tempos, taxis, etc based on the kind of demand. "The project is in preliminary stage and we will think about options only after agency prepares its report", added Keshav.

The MoUD Act also mandates to promote feeder services along with any MRTS (mass rapid transit system) so as to encourage more ridership. Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had mentioned earlier the importance of feeder services in metro project and had asked officials to plan the same while preparing metro's DPR.

Common mobility cards

LMRC said it has enough modern technological options to give maximum convenience to people. To help passengers save time, LMRC will promote usage of common mobility cards (smart cards) which can be used for both metro as well as feeder services' ride without having to waste time at fare counters.
