Film Shootings on trains to cost double now

New Delhi: The Indian Railways may have failed to negotiate a price with the producers of ‘Skyfall’, a James Bond movie, to shoot on its properties in 2011 but the national transporter seems to be undeterred in encashing its popularity among movie makers.

From the beginning of next month, railways has decided to almost double the charge for shooting of films on special trains. The rate for special trains for shooting films will be a minimum of Rs 4.74 lakh per day compared to the existing around Rs 2.31 lakh.

GPS-based info system launched on Chennai Local trains

Chennai: Southern Railway is gradually introducing GPS-based passenger information system in suburban trains. In May, the facility was introduced in one suburban train which is run on Moore Market Complex-Tiruvallur route.

This helps commuters find out which station is approaching when they are inside a crowded train.

It comprises a digital board where station names will run as a scroll accompanied by an announcement. With this, the number of EMUs and MEMUs with this facility has gone up to 40 in the zone, said a press release.

Meanwhile, in a bid to meet demand for more seats, the zone operated 302 passenger special trains, 388 unreserved special trains, added 60 coaches permanently and added 1,593 coaches temporarily.

A drive is on to improve cleanliness of stations. Medical department of railways lifted samples of food sold at stall installed in platforms.

Extension of passenger train service demanded

Kanyakumari District Rail Users’ Association (KDRUA) has demanded that the railway authorities to extend Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil Passenger Train (56311), departing from Thiruvananthapuram at 6.55 a.m., up to Kanyakumari and operate Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram Passenger Train (56316), departing at 18.20 hours from Nagercoil, as it will compensate the pair of passenger trains operated between Nagercoil and Kanyakumari (56528/56527 and 56045/56046) which were cancelled in October 2014.

The association also reiterated its earlier demand for extension of Tiruchirappalli- Tirunelveli (22627/28) Inter-City Express up to Thiruvananthapuram, as it would help the highly populated Kanyakumari district. The district had the highest density of population next to Chennai, said P. Edward Jeni, secretary of the association.

The association also appealed to the railway authorities to consider its demand for operating a day-time express train between Thiruvananthapuram and Tiruchirapalli via Nagercoil and Tirunelveli by using the idle rakes of 16341/16342 Guruvayur-Trivandrum Daily Express at Thiruvananthapuram between 10.10 hours and 17.30 hours.

The day-time express could be operated without changing the present timings of Guruvayur Express, Mr. Jeni said.

Presently, there was no day-time express train service to Chennai via Nagercoil, Tirunelveli and Madurai from Kanyakumari.

‘Ghost tale’ haunts Chittoor railway station

Both ends of the platforms at Chittoor railway station have been looking deserted after late evenings in the recent months. A story is doing rounds among the railway staff at the station that the ghost of a CRPF constable Hari Singh from Jharkhand hovers over the platforms ‘in search of justice’. The CRPF official was allegedly attacked by RPF personnel and a couple of TTEs on duty on a New Delhi-bound Kerala Express on October 31, 2013. Hari Singh, with serious injuries, got down at Chittoor railway station in the early hours after the train passed Katpadi junction. He was admitted to the local government hospital in Chittoor and was later shifted to Chennai, where he succumbed to injuries 10 days later. The Chittoor railway police launched a probe which gradually subsided. The passengers travelling by this route are unaware of Hari Singh’s ‘tale’ but it gives jitters to the local railway and police officials on duty at night.

Modi inaugurates Daniyawa-Biharsharif Rail line flags off Patna-Mumbai AC Express

Patna (PNBE): Sounding the bugle for the Bihar Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took a dig at Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad for stalling railway projects during his tenure as the Union minister.

Backing Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Modi said, “I agree with Nitish Kumar. Railway Ministers after Nitish Kumar did not work and stalled projects initiated by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.”

Lalu was the Railway Minister in the Congress-led UPA government from 2004-2009.

Sharing the dais with his arch-rival Nitish, Modi said, “My aim is Bihar’s development and the country cannot progress without the state’s development.”

Vowing to fulfil all his promises made to the people of Bihar, Modi said, “I will fulfil all my promises made to Bihar people and will make announcement at the right time. I have also realised that Rs 50,000 crore is not enough for Bihar’s development.”

In an another attempt to woo people, Modi said, “Like Nitish Kumar said “Modji we have hopes on you”. Bihar will be allotted Rs 3.75 lakh crore from 2015-20 because we want the state to progress.”

Modi also launched Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana for power sector reforms in Patna and flagged off Daniyawa-Biharsharif railway line and Patna-Mumbai AC express.

Modi will address a mega rally in Muzaffarpur district and is likely to announce a special economic package for Bihar and share his vision for the state.

All Central Ministers from Bihar are likely to be present on the dais along with members of the National Democratic Alliance, including Union Ministers Ramvilas Paswan, Upendra Kushwaha and former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.

The BJP is bringing out the big guns to boost its chances in the state and after party President Amit Shah sounded the poll bugle last week.

“Modi arrived at the Patna airport by a special Indian Air Force aircraft,” Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Vikash Vaibhav said.

He was received by Governor KN Tripathi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Nearly 2,000 policemen have been deployed here for Modi’s security.

Tight security arrangements were made after the intelligence agencies warned of a possible “human bomb attack” on Modi on the lines of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, a top police officer said.
