Railway Minister Expresses Condolences over the sad demise of Former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam रेल मंत्री पूर्व राष्‍ट्रपति डॉ. ए पी जे अब्‍दुल कलाम के निधन पर शोक व्‍यक्‍त किया

Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu has expressed his heartfelt condolences over the sad demise of former President of India Shri A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. 

In a message, the Railway Minister has said “Dr. Kalam was a great scientist, super patriot and people’s President. All of us are proud of his superlative achievements. I was fortunate to work closely with him. In his death, we have lost a great son of India. He will ever be remembered for his contributions to the nation”.

Passenger Safety and Amenities in Suburban Trains

Measures taken by Indian Railways for improving passenger safety and passenger amenities in suburban trains are as follows:
·         The suburban train coaches made in Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, have features of cushioned seats in First Class and Polycarbonate seats in Second Class for better aesthetics and passenger comfort. These coaches also have provision of forced air ventilation, passenger information and announcement system, stainless steel fixtures, Light Emitting Diode (LED) tube lights, etc. Other features for passenger safety include, stainless steel coach body, improved design rigid hand holds, slip free grab pole, etc. in the coaches.

Provision of Rakes in Railways

Railways have introduced an Automatic Freight Rebate Scheme with effect from 25.06.2015 wherein all loaded rakes in notified empty flow directions are charged at Class LR1 for trainload traffic and at Class 100 for wagonload traffic. Customer does not need to apply for availing benefit under the scheme. The rebate is automatically granted to customers through Freight Operation Information System (FOIS). This scheme is applicable to (i) all Goods Sheds,

Investment in Railways

The Ministry of Railways has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on the 11th March 2015 whereby LIC has agreed to provide funding assistance to the tune of Rs.1,50,000 crore over a five year period from 2015-16 to 2019-20 for financing Railway projects. 

Freight Marketing Schemes of Indian Railways

Indian Railways have introduced following freight marketing schemes for procurement of wagons/ rakes by inviting private investment to enhance existing fleet of wagons (freight carrier) with a view to generate more revenue. These are – 
(i) Special Freight Train Operator (SFTO) Scheme – For high capacity and special purpose wagons for transportation of selected commodity. 

Proposals have been received from two parties for procurement of three rakes by each party. 

Measures to Improve Catering Services in Indian Railways

Improvement of catering services is an ongoing process. Steps taken/being taken to further improve the catering services include (i)Third Party Audit of catering services to be conducted at periodic intervals by independent and reputed auditing agencies accredited by NABCB (National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies) as empanelled by the zonal Railways. (ii) Introduction of e-Catering so that passengers can book the food of their choice through internet (iii) Introduction of Pre-cooked Food (ready to eat) meals of reputed brands to improve the quality, hygiene and to provide variety of options of meals to the passengers (iv) Setting up of centralized Catering Services Monitoring Cell

Unauthorised People at Railway Stations

In a drive conducted by RPF during ‘Railyatri Upbhokta Pakhwada’ a fortnight long passenger and customer facilitation programme, as many as 34985 people including hawkers and vendors were arrested.

The arrested people are prosecuted as per law and the fine realized is the part of State exchequer.

Presence of unauthorized persons in railway premises is treated as security threat. Details of persons arrested under various sections of the Railways Act are as under:

Progress in Rail Sector Between India and Bangladesh

The Fundamental and Subsidiary Rules for Interchange of Railway Traffic between India and Bangladesh was signed in Dhaka on 11.08.1972. These Rules, mutatis mutandis, are still continuing.
Indian Railways have Agreements with Bangladesh Railway for interchange of goods traffic between India and Bangladesh via the following routes:

Gede(India)--Darsana (Bangladesh)
Since 1972
Singhabad(India)–Rohanpur (Bangladesh)
Since 1992
Petrapole(India)–Benapole (Bangladesh)
Since 2001
Radhikapur(India)-- Birol (Bangladesh)
Not operational since 01.04.2005. Gauge conversion on Bangladesh side is yet to be completed.
Mahisasan(India)–Shahbazpur (Bangladesh)
Not operational since December 1996 due to breaches and lack of traffic.

Katra-Banihal Rail Link Project

Safety is the prime parameter in construction of any railway project. Depending on the nature, complexity and scope of work, safety aspects are examined at various levels. For simple type of projects in plain areas, the safety issues are examined by zonal railways. RDSO is consulted in case of any complexity involved. However, in very complex projects like Katra-Banihal Rail Link, a multi-tier study about safety is done by engaging consultants of national and international repute. 

Creation of Land Bank in Indian Railways

A web based application called Land Management Module integrated with Track Management System (TMS) of Indian Railways has been developed for maintaining data i.e. details of acquisition/area/usages and land plans of Land Bank of Indian Railways. 

A work costing Rs. 36.24 crore has been sanctioned for mapping of all fixed Railway assets on Geographical Information System (GIS) of Bhuvan Satellite

INDIA N RAILWAY - Monitoring of Rail Tracks

Indian Railways have a system of scheduled inspections and patrolling by Railway officials which includes Keyman’s daily patrol for monitoring of tracks including those existing in lonely locations in the country. 

In addition, protection and security of tracks and bridges is the statutory responsibility of States which is being discharged by them through concerned District police. 

Necessary coordination/liaison is maintained by RPF with GRP and district police to ensure smooth train operation over Indian Railways.

आपने रेलवे ट्रैक तो देखें होंगे लेकिन आपने ऐसा रेलवे ट्रैक शायद ही देखा होगा जो बाजार के बीच से गुजरता हो, या रनवे के बीच से जाता हो। लेकिन आज हम दुनिया के कुछ ऐसे रेलवे ट्रैक दिखा रहे हैं जिन्हें देखकर आप चौंक जाएंगे। इसमें कोई रेलवे ट्रैक खतरों से खाली से नहीं है, तो कोई देखने में रोमांटिक है। आगे की स्लाइड्स में देखें दुनिया के अजीबोगरीब रेलवे ट्रैक। ये है न्यूजीलैंड के जिसबोर्न एयरपोर्ट से गुजरने वाला रेलवे ट्रैक। ये ट्रैक यहां के एयरपोर्ट के एक रनवे के बीच में से गुजरता है और इसी के ऊपर से ही हवाई जहाज निकलते हैं। ये जितना देखने में अच्छा लग रहा है, ये उससे ज्यादा खतरनाक है।

ये थाईलैंड का रेलवे मार्केट। सबसे खास बात ये है कि इस मार्केट के बीच में एक रेलवे ट्रैक है जहां से लगातार ट्रेन भी जाती है। इस ट्रेन और बाजार की दुकानों के बीच की दूरी का अंदाजा तो इस फोटो से ही लग सकता है।

ये है यूक्रैन का टनल ऑफ लव। चारों और पेड़-पौधौ और हरियाली से घिरे हुए इस रेलवे ट्रैक पर से गुजरने का मजा ही कुछ ओर है। ये रेलवे ट्रैक किसी स्वर्ग से कम नहीं है।
