Government of India
Ministry of Railways
(Railway Board)
No. 2009/TG-I/20/P/Chart

New Delhi, dated 14.10.2015
The Chief Commercial Managers,
All Zonal Railways.
(Commercial Circular No. 62 of 2015)
Sub: Preparation of reservation charts:
  1. As per para 626 of Indian Railway Commercial Manual Vol.1, reservation charts should be displayed at the main entrance of the station and/or on the platform from which the trains are scheduled to leave as early as possible but not less than 2 hours before the scheduled departure of train. To ensure this, instructions have been issued from time to time for timely preparation of reservation charts. A provision had also been made in the computerised PRS to extract the information regarding the locations where reservation charts have been prepared late. However, instances are still being brought to the notice of this office where reservation charts are being prepared late.
  2. A proposal is under consideration of this office that after preparation of reservation charts, the facility of reserving available vacant accommodation in the train or to cancel the already booked ticket, which at present is available only at current counters of train originating station/identified road side station, up to a specified time before departure of train, shall be made available on internet and also at other PRS centers. With a view to ensure successful implementation of this scheme, it is desired as under:-
(i) Reservation charts of the trains should be prepared at least 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train without fail. For this purpose, wherever required, the timings for release of emergency quota can be adjusted accordingly.
(ii) Zonal Railways should ensure that supplementary charts indicating the booking made after preparation of reservation charts and up to a specific time before departure of train should be invariably taken out and handed over to the train staff, if not being done earlier.
  1. Necessary instructions may be issued to all concerned accordingly and compliance report indicating the implementation of the above said provisions should be sent to this office by 30.10.2015.

Konkan Railway plans Chiplun-Karad line to mark its 25 years

The route will be 103-km long. As the Maharashtra government is developing or expanding the ports of Rewas, Dighi, Jaigarh, Angre, Vijaydurg and Redi, the Karad-Chiplun line will facilitate easy transport of export/import cargo.

To mark its sliver jubilee this year, the Konkan Railway has proposed to link Chiplun in coastal Ratnagiri district with Karad in Satara district across the Sahyadris, providing rail connectivity between the hinterland of Maharashtra and its Konkan coast.

The linkage will provide a big boost to the industry, said Siddeshwar Telugu, chief public relation officer, Konkan Railway, in a release here.

The route will be 103-km long. As the Maharashtra government is developing or expanding the ports of Rewas, Dighi, Jaigarh, Angre, Vijaydurg and Redi, the Karad-Chiplun line will facilitate easy transport of export/import cargo.

The detailed project report has already been prepared, Telugu said. The 'traffic projection' report has been prepared by Price water house coopers while the financial viability study was conducted SBI Capital.

The major cargo that this line will transport is coal used for power generation.

The estimated cost of construction is around Rs 2,500 crore. Maharashtra government would bear half the cost and the balance would be funded through the private participation.

The project is expected to be completed within five years. The special purpose vehicle for the project would be formed within a couple of months and the construction may start soon thereafter, the PRO added.

Ahead of the Deepavali festival, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) jointly conducted an awareness campaign at the Tiruchi railway junction on Tuesday appealing to train passengers not to carry crackers and inflammable articles in trains.

As part of the campaign, personnel of the RPF and the GRP drove home the message using megaphones besides pasting stickers of RPF Helpline No. 182.

They circulated pamphlets to passengers waiting at the railway station.

The security personnel said carrying crackers and inflammable articles in trains was punishable under the Railway Act.

Senior officers from the RPF and the GRP took part in the joint campaign.

Railways engineers suggest private cabins with doors on AC coaches

CHENNAI: With train passengers demanding more privacy at a premium, a group of engineers at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai has suggested that AC III tier and AC II tier coaches can have two cabins each with light-weight aluminium doors.

The railways has been removing curtains from AC III tier coaches to ensure cleanliness and to make the coaches fireproof. The ICF engineers' suggestion was included in a paper submitted at a technical seminar of Indian Railways Technical Supervisors Association (IRSTA) on Tuesday.

IRSTA member K V Ramesh, who presented the paper, said ICF can provide cabins in coaches without making changes in the existing layout. It can be provided on sleeper class coaches also. "Berths in these cabins of AC II tier and AC III tier and sleeper class coaches can be charged an extra of 20%, 15% and 10%," he said.

Pay more for rail tickets close to journey date

BHOPAL: Soon, you may have to shell out extra if you book train tickets close to date of journey. To increase revenue, Indian Railways is mulling to introduce progressively increasing fare and refund charges where one would have to shell out the least on booking or cancelling train tickets near the existing period of 120 days.

Ticket price and cancellation charges would be increased every 10 days thereafter like flight tickets that have dynamic pricing as well based on date of journey, said sources.

This proposal was discussed on the first day of the all-India railways chief commercial managers' (CCMs') conference held here on Tuesday. CCMs of all 16 railway zones and senior officials of Railway Board like member (traffic) Kundan Sinha, additional member (commercial) S C Jethi, officials from Konkan Rail Corporation, Metro Rail, Kolkata, IRCTC and Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), among others were present.
