Clarification regarding website of IRCTC Which sells E-Ticket of Indian Railways

News Reports have appeared in some Electronic and Print media regarding alleged leakage of email and mobile numbers from user profile data of IRCTC E-ticketing system. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism corporation (IRCTC) is a PSU of Indian Railways. Its website is used for purchasing Railway E-Tickets.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor

The joint feasibility study by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Government of India on Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed corridor has been completed in July 2015.

Railway Land Under Encroachment

As on 31.03.2016, approximately 879.48 hectares of land is under encroachment. Most of these encroachments are in the approaches of the Stations in Metros and big cities. Steps Taken By Indian Railways To Prevent Fire Accidents In Trains

 Followings steps are being taken on Indian Railways to prevent fire accident in trains:-
·        Indian Railways have always endeavoured to enhance fire worthiness of coaches by using fire retardant furnishing materials to mitigate effect of fire. Specifications for such furnishing materials have been periodically reviewed to incorporate fire retardant parameters in line with UIC (International Union of Railways) and other international norms.

Making Railway Infrastructure Accessible To Specially Abled People

Improvement/augmentation of amenities at stations, including those for differently-abled passengers is a continuous process. In order to provide better accessibility to passengers with disabilities, short term facilities as detailed below have been planned depending upon categories of the stations, beginning with ‘A-1’, ‘A’ & ‘B’ category stations:

Surveillance for Avoiding Malpractices in Indian Railways

Indo – Myanmar Rail Network - LOK SABHA

Indian Railways have taken up two new line projects viz. (i) from Agartala in North Eastern Region of India to Akhaura in Bangladesh sanctioned in Rail Budget 2012-13 and (ii) Construction of Haldibari (in India) to Bangladesh International Border (3 Km) included in Rail Budget 2016-17 subject to requisite Government approvals. A feasibility study was done in 2005 by Indian through Rail India Tchnical & Economic Services Ltd. (RITES), a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) of Ministry of Railways, for a link from Jiribam in India to Kalay/Mandalay in Myanmar. 

Safety Measures in Indian Railways - LOK SABHA

With a view to go into all technical and technology related aspects in connection with safe running of train services in the country, the High Level Safety Review Committee (Kakodkar Committee) was constituted by the Ministry of Railways on 16.09.2011. The report submitted by the Committee has since been examined and of the 106 recommendations, 68 recommendations have been found fully acceptable, 19 partially acceptable and 19 non-acceptable. Steps have been initiated by the Ministry to implement the accepted recommendations and 22 recommendations have already been implemented.

Construction of Railway Tracks By Private Firms

Railways has issued a Participative Policy in December 2012 envisaging four different models through which private firms can participate for construction of Railway lines. These models are - Non Governmental Railway (NGR), Joint Venture (JV), Build Operate & Transfer (BOT) and Annuity. Under these models, the concessionaire are responsible for financing, constructing and timely completion of the project. Such concessions are different from Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts.

FDI In Railways - As per data compiled by Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP)

As per data compiled by Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), the quantum of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Railway related components during the last six months (from September, 2015 to February, 2016) is US $ 59.81 million.
