Highest controlling authorities shall also be able to monitor the progress of grievance redressal by field offices.

The Application is developed by CRIS, the IT arm of Indian Railways, on the basis of process designed by Establishment directorate of Railway Board which deals with staff matters and technical guidance of Computerisation and Information System directorate.

Will GST result in more Capital requirement for Rail infra sector?

New Delhi: The Rail infra sector in India is fairly unique when it comes to indirect taxes. Depending on the kind of projects, it enjoys many exemptions under the central laws, while most of the states charge the applicable VAT / CST / entry tax on goods procured for the project. Also, most of the taxes that are not otherwise exempt are non-creditable and end up as tax costs in the system. The Model GST law seems to address some of these fundamental issues.

What it means for the contractor

In its current form, GST would appease the contractor due to seamless credit flow and the proposed treatment of works contract as ‘services’. Coupled with subsuming of taxes such as excise, CST, entry tax, etc, GST would bring in the much-needed efficiency for the infrastructure sector on the cost side. At a macro level, it is expected that any impact of increase in GST rates in the hands of EPC contractor should get negated by incremental GST credits in the procurement chain.

Rail Strike will cripple over 23m Passengers and 1100 MT of Freight Biz of IR

In 1974, railway employees demanding a wage increase staged a strike that crippled life in the country for almost three weeks. Hence Centre should be more careful on the way it is being planned by the Unions now; and should not allow nefarious politics creep into!

New Delhi: Imagine you wake up one morning and come to know that the trains are not running. Skeptical at even the thought of it? It may just come true if the 1.3 million employees of Indian Railways decide to act on a threat to go on an indefinite strike from 11 July.

GST rollout can boost Railways and Logistics

The term logistics originated in the early part of the 20th century during the World War years. It dealt with movement of troops and ammunition. Today, logistics has a broader meaning, dealing with micro-planning associated in the delivery of goods from the point of origin to the point of consumption, in the most efficient manner.

The Indian logistics market recorded revenues of $104 billion in 2014 and is expected to grow by 6-7 per cent, year on year, to reach $160 billion by 2020, according to estimates made by Frost & Sullivan.
