New Delhi: Member, Rolling Stock (earlier called Member Mechanical), Railway Board Shri Hemant Kumar gave details of six initiatives of Indian Railways pertaining to his Directorate at a press conference held in Rail Bhawan today i.e. 09.08.2016. The briefs of these six initiatives are given as below : –

Brief about bio-toilets and green train corridor :-

In order to contribute to mission ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Ministry of Railways have taken up a mammoth task of providing human discharge free bio-toilets in all its coaches and the same would be completed by September 2019. With provision of bio-toilets in all its coaches discharge of human waste from trains on to the ground would be completely stopped which in turn would help in improving cleanliness and hygiene. Ministry of Railways have already provided 43,000 bio-toilets in its coaches till 31stJuly, 2016 and in the current financial year, it is planned to fit additional 27,500 bio-toilets.

Kalaburagi-Bidar line to be commissioned in February 2017

Kalaburagi: The long-pending Kalaburagi-Bidar new rail line will be commissioned in February 2017 after the completion of the ongoing works on laying rail lines and construction of railway stations between Kalaburagi and Humnabad, Ajai Kumar Dubey, Divisional Railway Manager, Central Railway, has said.

Speaking at the flagging of ceremony of the Gulbarga-Hyderabad Inter-city Express on Monday, he outlined the works taken up by the Railways in the Kalaburagi region.

He said that the fourth platform at the Gulbarga Railway Station, constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.5 crore, would be commissioned in September and the second foot overbridge along with a lift in the fourth platform, set up at a cost of Rs. 2.6 crore, would be commissioned by March 2017.

IR to overcome hurdles in Railway Electrification due to dearth of Locos & Funds

Western Railway fixes snag in Power Software for Bombardier Rakes



Mumbai: The Western Railway (WR) has worked out the snags in the Bombardier rakes for now, after a series of failures on the line on June 12, when eight of them had failed due to a fault in the inbuilt system. This had caused 100 cancellations on the line and even more delays.

The Bombardier-make trains, which are a part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project II (MUTP), had shut down after the trains had shut themselves down due to continuous power fluctuation. The Bombardier-make trains had a system where the train would shut down and isolate its system when there is tripping due to power fluctuation, in the frequency of three times in three minutes.

BEML Palghat Plant derailed by lack of rail connectivity to Kanjikode

Palghat: Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) unit here – allotted to the region during senior Congress leader A K Antony’s tenure as Union Defence Minister – is now engaged in building undercarriages for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC).

However, lack of rail connectivity to Kanjikode railway station means that the undercarriages have to be transported all the way to BEML’s Bengaluru unit in trailers. And the remaining components are manufactured and assembled there to meet the DMRC requirements.

MMRDA overlooked Green clearances in Metro project: CAG



Mumbai: The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has come down on the Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority (MMRDA) for spending Rs. 5 crore unnecessarily crore in the construction of the Metro-II corridor in Mumbai. The CAG report has said the MMRDA appointed an independent engineer without resolving environmental issues related to the Metro-II corridor, which resulted in an ‘infructuous’ expenditure of Rs. 4.71 crore.

The CAG pointed out that the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL), a fully-owned company of MMRDA, entered in January, 2011, into an agreement with a consortium of three private parties for rendering consultancy services.

IIMB suggests Rs.15 as minimum fare for Namma Metro

Bangalore: The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), the consultant appointed to prepare a fare structure for Kochi metro, has suggested Rs.15 as the minimum fare for 2 km distance and Rs.65 for the 25-km-long Aluva-Pettah corridor, during peak hours.
The IIMB has also recommended variable fare during off-peak hours, capping the upper fare at Rs.50. The final fares will be fixed most likely at the next director board meeting of KMRL, after being vetted by the fare-fixation committee which would have representatives of the State government and the Union Urban Development Ministry, Kochi metro sources said.

Delhi Metro to install Solar Plant atop elevated Stabling Shed



New Delhi: Delhi Metro will install a 3 MWp solar power plant atop an elevated stabling line of Kalindi Kunj depot, the first-ever such shed being built in the DMRC network.

“The work on the stabling shed will be completed in about six months and then the solar plant will be installed atop the shed,” the DMRC said today.

Delhi Metro has so far installed solar power facilities at three of its depots – Yamuna Bank, Ajronda and Mukundpur –and work is in progress towards installing more such plants in the other depots.
