JAIPUR: In order to decongest the Jaipur railway station especially the Parshuram circle area which is the main entry point for travellers coming to Jaipur Junction, the Jaipur division of north western railways (NWR) is all set to get a facelift. By December, Jaipur railway station is going to get its third entry point from Parivahan Marg side to ease the congestion.
New Delhi: Railyatri.in, a platform for railway commuters, recently closed a fresh round of funding from existing investors — Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and venture funds Bloom Ventures, Omidyar and Helion Ventures. Sources declined to share details on the quantum of investment.
The platform, which has an app as well as a portal, provides services primarily to train passengers, such as ticket-confirmation probability, food ordering and delivery in trains, hotel booking and information on hospitals located along train routes.

Government of India invites private sector to invest in rail infrastructure – said Rajen Gohain, Minister of State for Railways, at ASSOCHAM International Summit on Invest Rail held at New Delhi. The Minister said that Indian Railways had already set in consultative process on private investment.
New Delhi: Railways is keen to involve private players in development of rail infrastructure at more than 400 major stations in the country and offers “favourable” investment environment for the industry partners, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said here today. The Minister on Wednesday urged the private sector to invest in railway infrastructure.

NITI Aayog’s innovation committee may decide Talgo’s fate in India
New Delhi: To acquire lightweight aluminium-bodied Talgo coaches on a ‘preferential basis’, the Ministry of Railways may approach the Empowered Committee on Innovation Collaborations. Under the rules governing the railways, it can award contracts to lease or buy only through a global tendering process. However, the Committee, a part of the National Institution for Transforming India (Niti) Aayog has been vested with the power to allow a contract to be awarded to a particular firm if it is convinced by the value it brings to the country.
Haridwar: Work on the proposed Rishikesh-Karnaprayag railway line is expected to begin in December 2016. In-principal clearance for the first phase of the project has already been given by the Union ministry of forests, environment and climate change. Formal clearance will be granted by the ministry after compliance of the conditions mentioned in the in-principal clearance letter, additional principal chief conservator of forests Vinod Singhal told.
New Delhi: Stepping up efforts to ensure zero toilet discharge on rail tracks, railways have added another 175 km track to the green train corridors.
The 141-km-long Okha-Kanalus route and the 34-km-long Porbandar-Wansjaliya sections in Gujarat have now become the green train corridors as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, said a senior Railway Ministry official. adding “the green corridor will be formally announced tomorrow.”
A project has been sanctioned for purchase of 1,000 such equipment—to be fitted at the goods train’s end for communication between the driver and last wagon at an estimated cost of Rs.100 crore. Features of the End of Train Telemetry equipment include collision detection, data logging, monitoring of defective wheels and emergency braking!
New Delhi: Goods trains may soon come fitted with an electronic device at the tail end instead of the usual guard’s cabin, as the railways takes a step in the direction of automation.
The Centre has allocated Rs.38,500 Crore for National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in this year’s budget.
Indian Railways has proposed to undertake construction work in its projects under the government’s flagship rural jobs programme, potentially bringing in thousands of crores of rupees to the cash-strapped national transporter.
