Activists demand debate on plan to revise railway fares

The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation’s (MRVC’s) proposal to restructure suburban rail tariff has invoked mixed reactions from commuter associations and transport experts. While some passenger activists supported fare rationalisation to make the system sustainable, others demanded a public debate on the proposed restructuring as any tweaking in tariff will affect 75 lakh commuters.

Free Wi-Fi service at 100 railway stations

In January this year, railways launched its first free Wi-Fi services at Mumbai Central station

With Kollam in south India becoming Wi-Fi-enabled, railways have completed the task of equipping 100 stations with free Wi-Fi service across the country by the end of 2016. The next move is to cover 400 major stations with free Wi-Fi by next year.

Mumbai: Central Railway to put up 18 escalators at stations

Mumbai: The Central Railway (CR) has proposed additional 18 escalators and 16 lifts on the suburban railway stations and will be open to public by December 2017. The railway officials are conducting the feasibility study on aspects like location, crowd management and population census for constructing the escalator and lifts on the railway stations.

Crackers explode inside railway cabin, killing key-man in Jabalpur

BHOPAL/JABALPUR: One person was charred to death and another sustained fatal burn injuries following an explosion inside a railway gate cabin in in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district on Monday morning.

While railway officials are awaiting report from the forensic experts to ascertain the cause behind the incident, insiders say explosion of crackers and batteries led to the tragedy. There was a small stock of crackers inside the cabin

Facing a severe cash crunch, the Indian Railways was looking to link passenger fares with inflation, sources said, stressing the need for radical steps to improve the finances of the world’s fourth biggest train network.

NEW DELHI: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said today that he had ordered a "thorough investigation" after the Sealdah-Ajmer Express derailed near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh this morning, the second accident in two months.

Central Railway to install CCTV cameras in coaches reserved for handicap commuters

MUMBAI: Central Railway (CR) has proposed to install close circuit television cameras (CCTV) in compartments reserved for handicaps.
CR has already begun installing CCTVs in compartments reserved for women to ensure their safety after spurt in cases of assault on commuters inside the coaches. It has so far installed CCTV cameras in ladies compartment of four rakes and work is in progress in the 12 more rakes.

From January 1, swipe cards to buy Central Railway, Western Railway season pass

MUMBAI: Suburban commuters can start using debit/credit cards at some of the suburban stations to purchase season tickets as Point of Sale (POS) machines are being installed at booking counters on both Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR).

Ministry of Railways Doubles Compensation Rate Payable to Railway Accident Victims

Ministry of Railways has decided to revise the amounts of compensation payable in respect of Death & Injuries to the passengers involved in Accidents and Untoward Incidents. In the revised compensation rules the amount in all the categories have been doubled with respect to the existing amounts. This has been done by amending "The Railway Accidents and Untoward Incidents (Compensation) Rules, 1990". The new amended rules are being now referred to as "The Railway Accidents and Untoward Incidents (Compensation) Rules, 2016".

S. Railway installs PoS machines in 22 passenger reservation centres

CHENNAI, DEC 27: 

Southern Railway has installed additional point of sale (PoS) machines in 22 of its passenger reservation centres across Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

These 22 centres that have the highest number of passenger reservation system (PRS) transactions now offer the facility of cashless payment while purchasing reservation tickets.

Noida-Greater Noida Metro gets Rs.406 cr boost from NCR Planning Board

National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) has begun to release funds for the Noida-Greater Noida Metro Project by disbursing the first loan installment of Rs.406 Cr, giving a fillip to speedy execution of this important metro project.
                NCRPB had earlier sanctioned a loan of Rs.1,587 cr to Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) for the 29.70 km Noida-Greater Noida Metro Project that is estimated to cost Rs.5,533 cr. This 20 year loan, including a moratorium of five years for repayment of loan carries an interest rate of 7% per year and an incentive of 0.25% for timely repayment of installments. The targeted date of completion of this section is April, 2018.
                Announcing the disbursement of the first installment of loan, Shri B.K.Tripathy, Member-Secretary, NCRPB said; “Noida-Greater Noida metro link is important for enabling a seamless travel in National Capital Region, which the Board is committed to promote. Further release of funds to this important section depends on physical and financial progress of the section. NCR Regional Plan-2021 emphasised the need for strengthening connectivity between NCR towns.  Metro is emerging as the most efficient, fast, smooth and eco-friendly mode of public transport in the core of NCR.”

Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh reviews working of Police Division

CRPF raising Bastariya Battalion by recruiting from south Bastar region


The Union Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh today reviewed the working of Police Division. The Home Minister was informed by the Senior Officers that the CRPF, for the first time, is raising an exclusive composite tribal Battalion by recruiting male and female tribal youth from south Bastar region. The recruitment process is going on and is likely to be completed by mid of January, 2017. The recruits will be joining during April, 2017 for their basic training. This is also a first recruitment process, where CRPF have implemented 33% reservation at the Constable level recruitment for females.

Auction for Sale (Re-issue) of Government Stock

Government of India have announced the Sale (re-issue) of (i) “6.84 per cent Government Stock 2022” for a notified amount of Rs. 2000 crore (nominal) through price based auction, (ii) “6.97 per cent Government Stock  2026” for a notified amount of Rs. 8,000 crore (nominal) through price based auction,   (ii) “7.73 per cent Government Stock  2034” for a notified amount of Rs. 2,000 crore (nominal) through price based auction,   (iv) “7.06 per cent Government Stock, 2046” for a notified amount of  Rs. 2,000 crore (nominal) through price based auction. The auctions will be conducted using multiple price method. The auctions will be conducted by the Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai Office, Fort, Mumbai on December 30, 2016 (Friday).

COAS visits Headquarters ARTRAC

General Dalbir Singh, the Chief of Army Staff visited Headquarters Army Training Command at Shimla today on a farewell visit prior to relinquishing office in the end of the year.

During the visit, he addressed all Officers of the station, highlighting the existing and emerging security and management challenges. He also gave an insight into the numerous steps being taken by the Army in all spheres, for its continued development and growth. While interacting with the troops, he urged them to dedicate themselves to the nation and maintain the highest tradition of the Indian Army.

Centre Confirms of H5 N1 Strain of Avian Influenza Virus in Village Keranga of District Khordha of Odisha

The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fishries, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has informed the Government of Odisha regarding the confirmation of  H5 N1 strain of Avian Influenza virus in village Keranga of District Khordha of Odisha. The samples from the said epicenter were sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal who confirmed on 25.12.2016 that the aforesaid samples were found positive in RT-PCR and Real time RT-PCR for H5 N1 strain of Avian Influenza virus.
 State was intimated of the positive results on 25.12.2016. The State was requested to carry out the control and containment operations as per ‘Action Plan of Animal Husbandry for Preparedness, Control and Containment of Avian Influenza (2015)’ which was circulated to the States by the Government of India in March, 2015. It is also available on Department website (www.dahd.nic.in) under link: Animal Health-Bird Flu. Therefore, control and containment measures as per above Action Plan on Avian Influenza needs to be carried out by the State.

PM attends NITI Aayog’s interaction with economists on “Economic Policy – The Road Ahead”

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, today attended an interactive session with economists and other experts, organized by NITI Aayog, on the theme “Economic Policy – The Road Ahead.”

During the session, participants shared their views on various economic themes such as agriculture, skill development and job creation, taxation and tariff related matters, education, digital technology, housing, tourism, banking, governance reform, data driven policy, and future steps for growth.

He was addressing at the 9th National Conference of the Indian Association of Lawyers with the theme ‘Constitution, Supreme Court and Social Justice’, in Bengaluru today. The Governor of Karnataka, Shri Vajubhai Vala, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri Siddaramaiah, the Minister of Law, Government of Karnataka, Shri T.B. Jayachandra and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
