Railway budget: With token funds, work may begin on elevated, suburban corridors in Mumbai

 
The estimated cost of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST)-Panvel and the Bandra-Virar elevated corridors is Rs 15,000 crore each, and for the suburban corridor it is Rs 10,000 crore.

Kerala gives a thumbs up to high-speed rail

Survey claims 86% of participants support the project

The majority of people in the State support the proposed 430-km high speed railway line (HSR) between Kochuveli in Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur, if a survey conducted in 11 districts is any indication.

Mumbai also got fund allocation of Rs83 crore under passenger amenities, to both Central and Western railway, according to railway officials.

Suburban infrastructure projects connecting the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) have got a major boost in the budget announced on Thursday. The Union railway ministry has made a provision of Rs636 crore for the city’s railway infrastructure projects, besides making giving its nod to the CST-Panvel elevated corridor and the Virar-Diva-Panvel quadrupling project, in the 2017-18 budget.

Mumbai: The railway budget does not have anything new for Mumbaikars, but Mumbai does have one takeaway: the commuter will be safer as all new local trains built under MUTP III (Mumbai Urban Transport Project) will now have closed doors and vestibules.

State got more than expected in rail budget: officials



Mumbai: Railway authorities in the city said there is nothing special for Mumbai in the Rail Budget except a green signal for two major elevated corridors in the ‘pink book’, which details project funding. Officials said they were shocked to see a mere ₹10 lakh being allocated for elevated corridors connecting CST to Panvel and Bandra to Virar, but soon realised that this is the token amount for the projects.

Bihar seems to have gained considerably in the allocation for railways in the first integrated Union budget tabled by Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday.

Railway gifts maintenance workshop to Kalahandi

BHUBANESWAR: The central government has sanctioned a new railway project for Kalahandi district in the Union Budget 2017. Railways will set up an Electric Loco Periodical Overhauling Workshop, a maintenance workshop for electric engines, at Narla in the district to be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 186.37 crore. It has sanctioned a token amount of Rs 1 lakh for the beginning of the project.

Railway projects in Odisha get adequate funds in budget

BHUBANESWAR: Even as low expenditure of funds in railway projects remains a concern, ongoing railway line projects and other sectors received adequate funding in the 2017-18 in the central budget for the railway sector. Besides, setting up of electric loco periodical overhauling workshop and freight train maintenance facilities with routine overhauling facility for frieght wagons were announced to be set up in Kalahandi and Sambalpur districts respectively. Allocation of Odisha for the railway sector was Rs 5102 crore in 2017-18 compared to Rs 4682 crore.

Auto drivers raise stink at railway station

PUNE: Around 300 autorickshaw drivers plying from Pune railway stationprotested against the railway authorities after they were asked to move to the newly constructed stand immediately.

With the authorities allegedly blocking the existing stand, located in front of the main entrance of the railway station, since Wednesday , the auto drivers refused to shift their vehicles from the old stand.

Tanzania signs $1.2 bln deal for new railway line

Feb 3 Tanzania signed a deal worth $1.215 billion with a consortium of Turkish and Portuguese companies on Friday to construct a 300-kilometre railway line, part of plans by the east African country to boost trade with its land-locked neighbours.

In total, Tanzania wants to build a 2,561 km standard gauge railway network connecting its main Indian Ocean port of Dar es Salaam to eastern and southern Africa's hinterland.

Major Railway accident averted! Gang-man runs 450 meters to stop passenger train from running through cracked track

Averting another major Railway accident in the country, a railway gang-man ran about 450 meters to stop a train after he noticed a 25 mm crack on the Ratlam-Ajmer railway track near Manan Kheda. According to a report by Naidunia, the railway gang-man, identified as Arjun Meena managed to stop the Ratlam-Jamuna Bridge passenger train 50 meters away from the crack.

Three new railway lines expected in Mysuru Division

This is evident in the ‘Pink Book’ that contains details of allocations forvarious projects


The allocation of funds in the general budget for various railway projects includes surveys for three new railway lines in the Mysuru Division.

They are surveys for a new railway line connecting Mysuru with Thalassery in Kerala, covering a distance of 300 km, and a Hassan-Belur-Chikamagalur-Sringeri-Shivamogga line covering about 150 km. In addition, a new line, identified under Capital Investment Programme to be taken up as a joint venture with the Government of Karnataka, between Shivamogga-Shikaripura-Ranibennur at a cost of Rs. 1,700 crore too has been approved.

Railways allocated Rs 500 crore for CCTV cameras at 983 stations: Minister

The Indian Railways has been provided with Rs 500 crore for installation of CCTV cameras at 983 stations, Minister of State (MoS) for Railways Rajen Gohain said on Friday.

"Funds to the tune of Rs 500 crore have been sanctioned for provision of CCTV (close circuit television) surveillance cameras at 983 stations," the minister informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply to a question.

Villupuram-Thanjavur railway line electrification among major projects in Union Budget

CHENNAI: Two days after the Union Budget allotted Rs 2,287 crore for railway development works in Tamil Nadu, it has been announced that funds to the tune of Rs 404 crore have been earmarked for undertaking electrification projects during 2017-2018.

Assam to get 3 new mega railway projects

DIBRUGARH, Feb 3 - The Narendra Modi Government has decided to gift three mega rail projects to the State, involving a total outlay of more than Rs 10,000 crore. The existing railway infrastructure like the Bogibeel bridge, new lines to the Barak valley, Manipur and Tripura, etc., are all roll-over projects from previous governments, and hence these three new mega projects would have the Modi touch, it is learnt.

Railway workers to protest penalties for holiday 'strike'



By Sun Hsin Hsuan -- Employees of Taiwan's railway administration said they would protest at the Presidential Office next Thursday against what they considered unjust punishment for not working over the Lunar New Year holiday.

About 200 staff who walked off work between Jan. 27 to Feb. 1 received letters from the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) for absenteeism, the Taiwan Railway Union (台鐵產業工會) said, adding that some of the workers could be fired.

Rail budget derails Bengaluru division’s plans

BENGALURU: The non-sanctioning of doubling of three railway projects and the meagre allocation towards passenger amenities for the South Western Railway zone has come as a huge disappointment to the Bengaluru Railway Division.

Funds allocated for track doubling, bridges in Salem Railway Division

The Railway Ministry has allocated Rs. 76.43 crore for the 11-km track doubling project in the Salem Junction – Magnesite Junction – Omalur section in the Salem Railway Division. This allocation was announced in the Union Budget on Wednesday.

The Railway Ministry has allotted Rs. 3,593 crore for Southern Railway, spread over in the States of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the budget as against last year’s allotment of Rs. 2,750.06 crore.

Ujjain: Supervisors cannot be office-bearers of rly trade unions after Mar 31

Ujjain: Railway supervisors will not work as office-bearers of any approved railway organisation after March 31.

In this regard railway ministry issued an order on January 30 to all GMs relating to all the zones of railways. The ministry has taken up this step to strengthen upkeep and maintenance of railway tracks. The role of railway supervisors is very important in regard to the maintenance of railway tracks and the ministry found that the supervisors were also the office-bearers of many recognised railway trade unions and hence they did not discharge their prime duty with sincerity and accountability.

Railway Budget boost for CR's mega projects

However, two Mumbai-based projects have received a token amount of Rs 10 lakh crore
The Union Budget, which included railway finances for the first time, has brought good tidings for the Central Railway. A few of its important projects have been given substantial funds, which officials said would go a long way in completing them over the next three to five years. However, two Mumbai-based projects have received a token amount of Rs 10 lakh crore. These include the Rs 9,356-crore Virar-Vasai-Panvel new suburban corridor and the elevated CST-Panvel corridor, which at current prices is expected to cost upwards of Rs 14,500 crore.

In Budget, Uttar Pradesh gets Rs 7,118 crore outlay for rail projects

In terms of average allocation, this is 541 per cent more than that during the UPA tenure between 2009 and 2014.

Poll-bound Uttar Pradesh has got Rs 7,118 crore outlay worth of Railway projects this Budget — around Rs 6,000 crore more than the allocation to the projects in the state in the entire UPA-II tenure, according to the Railway Ministry’s Demands for Grants tabled in Parliament on Friday. In terms of average allocation, this is 541 per cent more than that during the UPA tenure between 2009 and 2014.
