भारतीय रेल मंत्री पीयूष गोयल (Railway Minister Piyush Goyal) ने कहा कि भारतीय रेलवे (Indian Railways) ने साल 2030 तक कार्बन उत्सर्जन (Carbon Emission) को ‘शून्य’ करने का लक्ष्य तय किया है, ताकि बढ़ते ग्लोबल वार्मिंग पर लगाम लगाई जा सके.

साल 2030 तक कार्बन उत्सर्जन ‘शून्य’
कैबिनेट मंत्री पीयूष गोयल ने ट्वीट करते हुए लिखा, ‘भारतीय रेलवे कार्बन उत्सर्जन को कम करने पर काम कर रही है और साल 2030 तक हमारा लक्ष्य कार्बन उत्सर्जन को खत्म कर ‘शून्य’ तक पहुंचने का है. भारतीय रेल (Indian Railways) एक साल में करीब 800 करोड़ यात्रियों को साल भर में उनके गंतव्य तक पहुंचाती है तो 120 करोड़ टन माल भी ढोती है. भारतीय रेल ने कार्बन उत्सर्जन को शून्य तक सीमित करने की तरफ बढ़ने वाली दुनिया की इकलौती सर्विस प्रोवाइडर होगी.

चौथी सबसे बड़ी रेल सेवा है भारतीय रेलवे
भारतीय रेलवे दुनिया की चौथी बड़ी रेलवे (Fourth Largest Railway) है. भारत से आगे से सिर्फ अमेरिका, रूस और चीन की रेल सेवाएं हैं. भारतीय रेलवे के पास 67,368 किलोमीटर लंबा ट्रैक है तो कुल 7,300 स्टेशन भी काम करते हैं. नीति आयोग के मुताबिक साल 2014 में भारतीय रेलवे ने 6.84 मिलियन टन कार्बन का उत्सर्जन किया था.

डीजल फ्री होगी इंडियन रेलवे: पीयूष गोयल
पीयूष गोयल ने कहा, ‘दिसंबर 2023 तक भारतीय रेलवे पूरी तरह से बिजली से चलने लगेगी. भारतीय रेलवे दुनिया की इकलौती रेल सेवा होगी, जो पूरी तरह से डीजल फ्री हो जाएगी.’

सौर ऊर्जा की तरफ भी है ध्यान
पीयूष गोयल के मुताबिक भारतीय रेलवे के पास मौजूद जमीनों पर 20 गीगावाट तक सौर बिजली का उत्पादन किया जाएगा. इसके लिए भारत में ही बने सोलर पैनलों का इस्तेमाल होगा.

कोयले की पुरानी खदानें होंगी बंद
साल 2019 में गोयल ने कहा था कि केंद्र सरकार पुरानी कोयले की खदानों को बंद करने की योजना पर काम कर रही है. वहीं, विशेषज्ञों का मानना है कि भारतीय रेलवे के पूरी तरह से बिजली पर चलने की वजह से ट्रेनों की औसत स्पीड बढ़ाने में भी मदद मिलेगी.
