रेलवे समय के साथ हाईटेक हो गया है। मगर, कोहरे से निपटने के लिए रेलवे को अभी भी सालों पुराने ‘नुस्खे’ पर भरोसा है। कोहरे में अब भी चूना सबसे कारगर है। इस पर लोको पायलट को भी सबसे ज्यादा विश्वास है। इस कारण सर्दी शुरू होते ही चूना मार्किंग का काम शुरू हो जाता है। रेल प्रशासन के लिए कोहरे में ट्रेनों का संचालन चुनौती भरा रहता है। छोटी सी गलती भारी पड़ सकती है।

यही कारण है कि रेलवे का रिसर्च विंग लगातार नई तकनीक पर काम कर रहा है, ताकि कोहरे में भी रेल संचालन का सुचारू हो सके। नई तकनीक के कारण फाग सेफ्टी डिवाइस जैसे कुछ उपकरणों ने कोहरे में रेल संचालन को काफी सुविधाजनक बनाया है, लेकिन रेलवे में अभी भी लोको पायलटों का चूने पर भरोसा कायम है। लोको पायलट बंशी बदन झा ने बताया कि कोहरे में सिग्नल के एक किलोमीटर पहले चूना गिरा दिया जाता है, जिससे चालक यह समझ जाता है कि सिग्नल आने वाला है। इसके साथ ही सिग्नल से एक खंभा पहले रेडियम वाला सिग्मा बोर्ड लगाया जाता है, इस बोर्ड को देखकर लोको पायलट को पता चल जाता है कि आगे सिग्नल है। आगरा रेल मंडल के पीआरओ एसके श्रीवास्तव ने बताया कि सर्दियों में कोहरे को देखते हुए रेलवे सुरक्षा के लिए सभी आवश्यक कदम उठाता है। फाग सेफ्टी डिवाइस दी जाती है। साथ ही ट्रैक पर सिग्नल से पहले चूना और सिग्मा बोर्ड लगाए जाते हैं। पेट्रोलिंग के लिए गैंगमैन की ड्यूटी लगाई जाती है।

दुर्घटना से बचाव को पटाखा

रेलवे कोहरे में दुर्घटना से बचाव को पटाखे का इस्तेमाल करता है। जब कहीं दुर्घटना हो जाती है और डिब्बे दूसरे ट्रैक पर चले जाते हैं तो सामने से आने वाली ट्रेन के बचाव के लिए पटरी पर पटाखा लगा दिया जाता है। जब ट्रेन पटाखे के ऊपर से गुजरती है तो आवाज होती है, इससे लोको पायलट अलर्ट हो जाते हैं और ब्रेक लगा देते हैं। इससे दुर्घटना होने से बच जाती है।
