Central Railway harnesses Solar Energy for its Power requirements– Takes a positive step in opting for Green energy resources*.

Central Railway has always played an active role in opting for green and renewable energy for its power requirements and has taken various bold and revolutionary steps to fulfil the same.

The share of Renewable Energy consumption on Central Railway presently is 9.9% for Traction and 6.5% for Non-Traction and it is likely to increase soon. Harnessing Solar Power is one of the various measures being adopted by Central Railway in utilizing green and renewable energy resources.

Solar Panels have been installed at 205 locations over all 5 divisions of Central Railway including 47 locations on Mumbai Division, 58 locations on Nagpur Division, 50 locations on Pune Division, 32 locations on Bhusaval Division and 18 locations on Solapur Division as on July-2024 which have provided significant Power for CR’s requirements and has resulted in a considerable saving of revenue as well.

During the FY 2023-24, Solar Panels on Central Railway’s 5 divisions have generated 8.04 MU(Million Units) of Power which is equivalent to reducing 6594.81 tonnes of Carbon Foot Print .

This includes power generation of 5.56 MU on Mumbai Division ( equivalent to saving of 4557.17 tonnes of Carbon Foot Print), 1.35 MU on Bhusaval Division ( equivalent to saving of 1108.76 tonnes of Carbon Foot Print), 0.96 MU on Pune Division ( equivalent to saving of 784.44 tonnes of Carbon Foot Print), 0.09 MU on Nagpur Division ( equivalent to saving of 76.80 tonnes of Carbon Foot Print) and 0.08 MU on Solapur Division ( equivalent to saving of 67.61 tonnes of Carbon Foot Print).

These initiatives have led to total saving of Rs.4.62 crore, which includes savings of Rs.2.66 crore by Mumbai Division, Rs.1.09 crore by Bhusaval Division, Rs.0.69 crore by Pune Division, Rs.0.10 crore by Nagpur Division and Rs.0.08 crore by Solapur Division.

This further motivates other Railways for achieving Indian Railways Mission “ Carbon Neutral” by the year-2030.

Central Railway remains committed to leveraging renewable energy sources by utilizing solar power and contributing significantly towards Indian Railway’s goal of a Green Earth.

मध्य रेल ने हमेशा अपनी बिजली (पॉवर) आवश्यकताओं के लिए हरित और नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा को चुनने में सक्रिय भूमिका निभाई है और इसे पूरा करने के लिए कई साहसिक और क्रांतिकारी कदम उठाए हैं।

मध्य रेल पर अक्षय ऊर्जा खपत का हिस्सा वर्तमान में ट्रैक्शन के लिए 9.9% और नॉन-ट्रैक्शन के लिए 6.5% है और जल्द ही इसके बढ़ने की संभावना है। सौर ऊर्जा का उपयोग मध्य रेल द्वारा हरित और नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा संसाधनों का उपयोग करने के लिए अपनाए जा रहे विभिन्न उपायों में से एक है।

जुलाई-2024 तक मध्य रेल के सभी 5 मंडलों में 205 स्थानों पर सौर पैनल लगाए गए हैं, जिनमें मुंबई मंडल पर 47 स्थान, नागपुर मंडल पर 58 स्थान, पुणे मंडल पर 50 स्थान, भुसावल मंडल पर 32 स्थान और सोलापुर मंडल पर 18 स्थान शामिल हैं, जिससे मध्य रेल की आवश्यकताओं के लिए पर्याप्त बिजली उपलब्ध हुई है और इसके परिणामस्वरूप राजस्व की काफी बचत भी हुई है।

वित्त वर्ष 2023-24 के दौरान, मध्य रेल के 5 मंडलों पर सौर पैनलों ने 8.04 एमयू (मिलियन यूनिट) बिजली पैदा की है, जो 6594.81 टन कार्बन फुट प्रिंट कम करने के बराबर है। इसमें मुंबई मंडल पर 5.56 एमयू (4557.17 टन कार्बन फुट प्रिंट की बचत के बराबर), भुसावल मंडल पर 1.35 एमयू (1108.76 टन कार्बन फुट प्रिंट की बचत के बराबर), पुणे मंडल पर 0.96 एमयू (784.44 टन कार्बन फुट प्रिंट की बचत के बराबर), नागपुर मंडल पर 0.09 एमयू (76.80 टन कार्बन फुट प्रिंट की बचत के बराबर) और सोलापुर मंडल पर 0.08 एमयू (67.61 टन कार्बन फुट प्रिंट की बचत के बराबर) बिजली उत्पादन शामिल है।

इन पहलों से कुल 4.62 करोड़ रुपये की बचत हुई है, जिसमें मुंबई मंडल द्वारा 2.66 करोड़ रुपये, भुसावल मंडल द्वारा 1.09 करोड़ रुपये, पुणे मंडल द्वारा 0.69 करोड़ रुपये, नागपुर मंडल द्वारा 0.10 करोड़ रुपये और सोलापुर मंडल द्वारा 0.08 करोड़ रुपये की बचत शामिल है।

यह अन्य रेलवे को वर्ष-2030 तक भारतीय रेलवे मिशन “कार्बन न्यूट्रल” को प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रेरित करता है।

मध्य रेल सौर ऊर्जा का उपयोग करके अक्षय ऊर्जा स्रोतों का लाभ उठाने और भारतीय रेलवे के हरित पृथ्वी (ग्रीन अर्थ) के लक्ष्य में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान देने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है।
