Indian Railways Kamakhya Junction station, gateway to Shakti Peeth Kamakhya Devi temple

Great news for pilgrims going to Shakti Peeth Kamakhya Devi temple in Assam! Indian Railways Kamakhya Junction railway station has been upgraded with several passenger-friendly amenities! The national transporter, in its endeavour to provide world-class facilities and give new makeover to railway stations across the country, has upgraded another railway station recently. The Kamakhya Junction in Guwahati, Assam has been renovated completely, boasting a new look overall. The station infrastructure has been upgraded along with several new modern amenities and facilities to offer the best of facilities to railway passengers. The complete upgradation of the station has been done at a cost of Rs 2.32 crore. Provision has been made for retiring rooms, male and female dormitories with 10 beds each, improvement to toilets as well as other ancillary works in connection with joint development of the railway station with the Ministry of Tourism.

Under the redevelopment of Kamakhya Junction, cafeteria, renovated first class waiting hall, upgraded general waiting hall with a seating capacity of 120, additional seating arrangement at platforms have been provided. The waiting hall has also been provided with various modern facilities such as digital display, mobile charging points, AC, wifi service, male and female washrooms, drinking water, TV and feedback system. Also, work for the renovation of toilets, cloakroom, and water booths are currently in progress. The railway station building has also been beautified with paintings by local artists. 10 bedded dormitory with free wifi service, AC, TV has been provided for women. Another similar 10 bedded dormitory has been provided for men.

Piyush Goyal-chaired Railway Ministry is revamping railway stations all across the country. Several railway stations, over the past few months, were upgraded. Some of the stations, which have been redeveloped recently include New Delhi railway station, Patna Junction, Jaipur Junction, Haridwar Junction, Lonavala station, Manduadih station, Mathura Junction, Sainagar Shirdi station, among others. These stations have also been equipped with several modern features like new benches, improved waiting halls, lounges, LED lighting, renovated parking areas, improved toilets, etc. By the end of this financial year, the Railway Ministry aims to redevelop 68 stations.
