According to a senior official of the claims department of the Western Railway, the WR had proposed 106 cases, while Central Railway had put forward 150 matters for hearing in the Lok Adalat.

The Lok Adalat was presided over by Justice K Kannan – Chairman of RCT, and R D Sharma Member-Technical of RCT- Mumbai.

Among these 256 cases, a lawyer who represented in 32 cases, withdrew from hearing, while all other matters were disposed off,” Ity Pandey, Chief Claims Officer, WR, told PTI.

“A total of Rs 6.68 crore in compensation has been finalised,” she said, adding such adalats have proved extremely beneficial for victims to get speedy justice.

WR chief spokesperson Ravinder Bhakar said, “A new format of decree for Lok Adalat was devised by Justice K Kannan, taking into consideration all points put forth by the applicant’s advocates and respondent (Railways) which resulted in speedy finalisation of the cases.
