Budget 2019 से पहले रेलवे ने अपने कर्मचारियों (railway employee) को बड़ा तोहफा दिया है। अब रेलवे कर्मचारियों (railway employee) के 2 बच्चों को 33 वर्ष की उम्र तक रेलवे में फ्री यात्रा की सुविधा मिलेगी। अभी फ्री रेल यात्रा (free rail travel) के लिए आयु सीमा 21 वर्ष थी। रेलवे कर्मचारियों की यह मांग काफी समय से चल रही थी, जिसे अब मान लिया गया है। ऑल इंडिया रेलवे मेंस फेडरेशन और रेल मंत्री के बीच हुई वार्ता के बाद इस प्रस्ताव को हरी झंडी दे दी गई। सहमति बनने के बाद रेल मंत्री पीयूष गोयल (Piyush Goyal) की ओर से सभी मंडल रेल प्रबंधकों को पत्र जारी कर दिया गया है।

मांग के पीछे का तर्क रेल कर्मचारियों (railway employee) की मांग वर्षों से चल रही थी कि उनके बच्चे 20 या 21 साल की आयु के बाद अधिक सफर करते हैं, क्योंकि पढ़ाई के बाद प्रतियोगी परीक्षा देने या फिर अन्य कोर्स के लिए उन्हें घर से बाहर जाना पड़ता है। इस कारण बच्चों को फ्री रेल यात्रा (free rail travel) की दी जाने वाली सुविधा की आयु सीमा बढ़ाई जाए। ऐसा न होने से रेल कर्मचारियों (railway employee) को दिक्कतों का सामना करना पड़ रहा था। इसी लिए सरकार ने यह मांग Budget 2019 से पहले ही पूरी कर दी है। फ्री रेल यात्रा (free rail travel) की ये हैं शर्ते फ्री रेल यात्रा (free rail travel) की इस व्यवस्था के तहत रेलकर्मी (railway employee) के बेटे और बेटी दोनों शामिल रहेंगे लेकिन पर बेटी की शादी होते ही फ्री यात्रा की सुविधा नहीं ले पाएगी। हालांकि बेटों को यह सुविधा शादी के बाद भी 33 साल तक मिलेगी। लेकिन बेटों को यह सुविधा तभी मिलेगी जब रेल कर्मचारी यह कहेगा उसका बेटा अभी आत्मनिर्भर नहीं हुआ है। भारतीय रेल के बारे में भारतीय रेल एशिया का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा रेल नेटवर्क और सरकारी स्वामित्व वाला विश्व का चौथा सबसे बड़ा रेल नेटवर्क है। यह 160 वर्षों से भी अधिक समय से भारत के परिवहन का मुख्य आधार रहा है। भारतीय रेल विश्व की सबसे बड़ी नियोक्ता (railway employee) है, जिसके 13 लाख से भी अधिक कर्मचारी हैं।
