In the Mumbai area, the most commonly seen coaches have General Second Class accommodation. Some coaches or compartments are for First Class ticket-holders. There are also compartments, coaches, or entire trains reserved for women, known as Ladies’ Compartments or Ladies’ Specials. In some cases the Ladies’ coaches or compartments are reserved for women all the time, whereas in some cases they revert to being General Second Class accommodation while being reserved for women only during certain hours. There are also First Class Ladies coaches on all rakes now [2010] (earlier they were featured on only some services. Additionally, compartments are reserved for handicapped or physically challenged persons, and there are also mixed compartments or sections of coaches reserved for older travellers during certain times. Luggage compartments are also seen in the Mumbai trains.

(Need more information on other systems.) EMU services in other cities also generally offer similar categories of General Second Class and First Class accommodation, and some coaches or services reserved for women.
