Western Railway has been conducting regular ticket checking drives to keep a check on unauthorized travelling. Mumbai Division of WR has accomplished a remarkable feat by recovering Rs. 8.23 crore in fines with the detection of 1.3 Lakh cases during such checking drives conducted in the month of April, 2023. In recognition to the performance of the ticket checking staff, Shri Niraj Verma, Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Central Division felicitated the best earners from the cadre for their efforts as well as to boost their morale. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and other Senior Officers of the Division were also present on this occasion.

According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, 125 ticket checking staff of WR’s Mumbai Division were felicitated in recognition of their outstanding performance. In addition to these, three more Checking staff who displayed exemplary work were also felicitated. Smt Jill Shinto & Smt Snehal Palekar working as Dy. Chief Ticketing Inspector (Dy. CTI) were instrumental in detecting the fraud of forged AC local tickets. Due to their vigilant nature, WR was able to detect the deceit and apprehend the culprit who was engaged in such fraudulent activity.

Besides Ticket Checking activities, the Checking Staff also serve passengers humanely with their noble gestures. They provide assistance to the passengers by arranging for instant medical help, helping the passengers to recover their lost valuable items during travelling and in finding missing children, etc. In one such instance, one of the Ticket Checking staff, Shri Vijay Bhoite working as Chief Ticketing Inspector (CTI) in Rajdhani Express, went out of his duty and saved the life of a passenger. The passenger while trying to board the running train, fell between the train & platform and was being dragged along. Shri Bhoite immediately pulled the passenger with great difficulty, hurting himself in the process. Due to his courageous act, Shri Vijay Bhoite was also felicitated.

Western Railway appeals to the general public to travel with proper & valid tickets through manual ticket counters and from digital online tickets through UTS app, ATVM machines, etc.
